THE CREATOR

Anyone interested in this one? I feel like I'm trying to be, but I struggle to feel enthusiasm. Thoughts?

Comments

Have you seen it?

Ken

Haha nice. I wouldnt call it a big leap in science fiction, which is why I say it doesnt overshoot its concepts. It's not trying to be cerebral. It stays in its lane so brilliantly, I feel.

Deepfocuslens

Hey there, I was just reading twitter reactions to it and people are saying it’s a big leap forward in the science fiction genre. I think people can sometimes over exaggerate things at premieres, but these reactions are very interesting.

Ken

No I havent seen that one. I saw Shannon's as well, and was similarly curious. I'm a big Shannon fan so...anything he recommends is likely worth your time at least.

Deepfocuslens

Hey Maggie random question, but I was wondering if you’ve seen Seconds from 1966? I saw Michael Shannon pick it up in the Criterion Closet a couple weeks ago and I had never heard of it before. Watched it last night and wow did it surprise me. Although some technical aspects are admittedly a bit dated, everything else is completely ahead of it’s time. Would love to hear your thoughts on it

I just want Wednesday to get here already so I can stop thinking about it and move on. Everything we've done the past few days and what we'll continue to do until then all revolves around setting up for that day. I'm already fed up with it. Not because I didn't love her but because I don't want to think about it because it makes me angry. I'll be alright when it's all over.

Wolfman Brandon

Godzilla is similar. Boring, self-serious, but well made.

Deepfocuslens

I appreciate the originality of it, but it's rarely enough for me these days. 65 was an original sci-fi film. I'm not sure yet if I plan on seeing it or not.

Deepfocuslens

Im so sorry to hear about that. My heart goes out to you and your family. Be sure to take time to reflect and heal.

Deepfocuslens

I'm not sold on Washington yet, myself.

Deepfocuslens

I know it means little from a stranger, but there is a universality to loss, I can only offer you my deepest condolences.

Ross Skilton

I saw the trailer, and this kind of AI story has definitely been done before, so I’ll just be watching it for the action set-pieces. And I like John David Washington; he’s got a unique leading man swagger.

Jared Angcanan

I haven't been able to think about upcoming films. I told you about my 91 year old grandmother and why I was late for the Tár stream. Well...she died two days ago. She was the last grandparent I had. Been a lot of busy work and tension in the family since that day. I'm gonna be a pallbearer at her funeral this Wednesday. Sorry for the depressing comment.

Wolfman Brandon

It's captured the "big film" anticipation I remember from years past that disappeared at some point, so I appreciate it already for that reason. What was the last big-budget original sci-fi film? Tenet? Arrival? I'll go to see it just to support what the movie "is" regardless of how bad it will inevitably be.

Arthur Augustyn

Lol I feel the exact same way. I’ve only seen Rogue One, so I’m curious to see something that might be more personal to Edwards but my enthusiasm is low. Maybe once I see Monsters n Godzilla I’ll be more interested

Stephen

haha I suppose that's true. But prior to Rogue One, I still felt that way about him after seeing Godzilla.

Deepfocuslens

Oh we know how you feel about him. We saw the Rogue One review lol

Tyler Shobe

Yeah...plus Gareth Edwards is very self-serious. He's got a great visual sense but, I struggle with him in a lot of other areas.

Deepfocuslens

I'm curious cause I love sci-fi but it does kind of look like robot Last of Us, not particularly inspired. Visually looks nice but we'll see.
