Contemplating A Review...

There's been a review I've been wanting to do possibly in the fall, just as an extra one to put out whenever nothing new is out. I have no idea why this film keeps appearing on my radar, but I'm fascinated by the reaction to it.....But it's ROGUE ONE. XD Yeah, yeah...I know. I never saw it. And it seems the people were disturbed by this fact when I did all my Star Wars reviews last year. I hear people saying it's pretty good, and some saying it's one of the worst Star Wars films of all time. And I've heard both opinions from people I know well and whose opinions I respect. This is the entire reason I am interested in this film. If you all followed my Star Wars journey with me last year, then you know the context. Without giving too much away, what do you guys think of this um...rather polarizing film?

Yeah and it’s even more bizarre because his character in Clone Wars and Rebels wasn’t like that at all. I really want to know if some producer asked him to do it or if it was on his own volition lol. I have a feeling it may have been a character choice, especially if the character developed asthma over the years. I think I’m overthinking it though haha

Henri J. Mertens

oh man...thank you for mentioning that. I almost completely forgot about him. Yes...he was really awful. Like...wow. Maybe not Pedro Pascall in Wonder Woman 2 bad...but pretty shockingly bad. I was like "uh....is no one on the crew gonna speak up and tell him the truth?" lol

The first time I saw Rogue One I had a hard time enjoying it because of Forrest Whitaker’s awful performance. He does this hoarse whisper throughout that drove me a bit crazy lol. But on rewatch it was easier to overlook it and enjoy the film as just an action flick

Yes you nailed the feeling. I tried finishing it on an acid trip come down....and this was a mistake XD ><

If they had adult theaters for Star Wars fans, “Rogue One” would be the premiere attraction and would be played on a continuous loop for all eternity, as hordes and hordes of bearded 40 year old man-children would pour in and fill the seats (and their adult diapers). They would laugh…cry…cheer…and everything else you can imagine…A truly frightening sight…A screening of “Rogue One” for them is a old fashioned revival meeting, and the glorious and familiar sights and sounds of Star Wars their salvation. Together, They point their greasy fingers at the screen at the sight of a Star Destroyer and cry out “I recognize that!” And then orgasm in unison…A disturbance in the Force indeed. “Rogue One” is Fan Service - The Motion Picture. Anyways, To answer the question - the movie is a massive pile of shit.

Haha yes...XD...I'm about two-thirds of the way through, and I feel you have expressed my thoughts eloquently.

Movie bad

Arthur Augustyn

I think so, too. It feels like a natural extension between Episode III and IV. I've watched it several times.

The best of the Disney Star Wars movies, and I don’t think it’s that close. Not perfect, drags in a couple of spots, but enjoyable, with real stakes.

Jim Barnes

I left the cinema feeling pretty neutral towards it, I liked the elements that related to A New Hope and it's got some great cinematography in parts. But I couldn't care less for the characters which kind of undermines the whole thing. However, since Andor is a prequel series I am hoping that when it finishes and I will then re-watch Rogue One it will give me a reason to care for some of them at least (although any film that needs tv seasons to make you care about them is definitely missing something.) I personally think Solo is a better all-round Star Wars film. although I'm in the minority there I suspect. Either way both Solo & Rogue One are not a terrible assault on the senses, and basic logic, and that's a definite plus.

I second Tyler. Andor is a great show that you should check out sometime that gives a more complex, grounded and dare I say more adult view of the Star Wars world. It also executes three separate action sub genres in one season very effectively. With that said I’m a little more enthusiastic about Rogue One. Could the writing have been better? Yes but it still works very well as an espionage Star Wars film. For me it’s the best one since Empire.

For me, Rogue One is a half-loaf. It's the most compartmentalized of all the Star Wars movies, so I found it hard to really engage with any of the characters. There are also plot problems you can fly a star destroyer through. That said, it was fun to see them fill in the blanks on why a zillion-credit Death Star has such a ridiculous design flaw. It was also interesting to see a bit more of the inner workings of the Empire, and the political interplay between power players. It also introduces the character of Cassian Andor to the Star Wars universe--the main character of one of the finest Star Wars mini-series to date. Best of all, it has Alan Tudyk as the voice of a reprogrammed imperial security droid, K-2SO--he steals every scene he's in. Whether you'll have any uncanny valley issues with how they inserted the visage of Peter Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin or a youth-anized Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia into the mix I can't say--I didn't mind it that much. Looking forward to your review!

I only saw it the one time at release, and most of it hasn’t really stayed with me. The leads are bland and I’m not really invested in their plight, save for Donnie Yen’s character. The space battle at the end is the only thing I find myself coming back to watch.

Worth it cause it gave us Andor. Overall just kind of whatever on the movie. Like the direction but the writing is very underwhelming. It's not offensive to me which kind of makes it the best Star Wars movie of the last two decades.
