#62: Baba Talk (With Ben and Waleed) - Part 1

Baba Talk is a nice and earnest conversation between expecting fathers (babas) and friends, Ben and Waleed. This conversation was recorded just days before Waleed’s child was born. This episode is being released just days before Ben’s baby is due to be born. That’s kind of fun and nice.

I hope Baba Talk becomes like, a twice year treat. I'm still pretty young and pre-kids, and it's nice to listen to some people in their thirties discuss what having and raising a modern kid looks like. I don't feel like this is something that happens so frequently, and I hope it'll happen again

I’m a quarter Lebanese (my mother is half Lebanese and most of my extended family on her side is fully Lebanese) so I loved hearing you guys talk about what it will mean/look like for your children to exist in the gray area that is being “mixed” culturally speaking. Personally, my mom always made our Lebanese heritage a focal point of our upbringing and I’ll always be grateful for that. The food, the dance, the food, the language, the food, but most of all the mindset and spirit of being a family not far descended from immigrants. I think as long as those roots get watered, that cedrus libani will grow strong. P.S, my personal favorite example of Lebanese culture in my family is that all of the men call each other “zub,” the Arabic word for “dick,” very lovingly. We use it how you’d use the word “bud,” and the younger men have even taken to calling each other “zubby.”

It’s me, a parent! We love the name Nora, it is top of the list for a potential second child haha! Our 6 year old is Evelyn which was in the top ten in 2017 and was only briefly “Evelyn B.” in her child care so, you know- lists+grain of salt. Love this Baba Chat, prepare for the ride of your life folks! 💕💗💞

Fellow parent checking in! I feel you, on names you love getting popular... I have identical twin girls, born in '15, who we named Margot and Ione. Ione's classic-but-unusual name has stayed pleasantly under the radar, but Margot has jumped from the 900s to the 200s since ours was named. I blame Margot Robbie's parents!
