2023-03-30 21:28:18 +0000 UTCMy two cents on Malcolm in the Middle is that it doesn’t get the credit it deserves for being one of the only shows on television that made a sincere attempt to depict a working class American family. They had 6 people living in a rundown 2 bedroom house that they inherited, the only vehicle they had was a wood-panel sedan that was pushing 30, their furniture was worn and outdated, their closets were cluttered because they couldn’t afford to throw things away. It also went out of its way to emphasise how their situation was a result of systemic issues. Lois was incredibly hard-working and capable but had just never been afforded opportunities to better her situation, while Hal was a hobbyist savant who was never given the tools to learn how to focus his energies.
