I don’t know how to explain it but you kept saying king of the hill and my mind made that king of queens. Had a minor meltdown that these people I find funny were talking about what a masterpiece that show was 😂

2024-02-01 14:48:21 +0000 UTCI am a month late to this. "Pancakes, Divorce, Pancakes" is the absolutely the best written episode of comedy I've ever seen on TV. I take that back: it's tied with S2E1 of Fleabag.

2023-03-22 23:02:33 +0000 UTCWow putting Baskets up against Bluey felt wrong haha I can't think of two more different shows! Bluey is of course incredible, but Baskets was such a gem for me. Honestly I'd say it's more of a drama than a comedy tho because of how dry the humor is juxtaposed against the harsh realities the characters face. I can't recommend Baskets higher tho, but you have to go into it wanting a melancholic laugh.

2023-03-06 01:28:02 +0000 UTCAs someone with a complicated relationship with the sitcom format (canned laughter makes me stabby, other tropes even more), I may be stepping out of bounds... Scrubs may be the better *sitcom*, but I've never thought of The Good Place as one--episodes aren't self-contained, for one thing. Not sure what to call it genre-wise, but it's one of my favorite shows ever. I partially agree about the Eleanor/Chidi romance, but it's not supposed to be a typical sitcom romance, IMO. Their love comes out of camaraderie and shared experiences, which I found refreshing compared with usual depictions of romance and how they *should* go, and this chemistry comes across differently. (To be fair, I'm not a performer, so I may not be tuned into some things a performer would be.) With all that said, I really like Scrubs. One of many reasons is the different ways it depicts masculinities and friendships between men as the show developed. Most importantly, I feel like I let the show and myself down every time I forget to take my pants off to poo.

2023-03-05 15:30:39 +0000 UTCThings I learned from this episode: Apparently I don’t know what a sitcom is and I haven’t watched almost any sitcoms (at least from the partial list from the episode). I didn’t enjoy Big Mouth that much, which sucks because I love pretty much all of the actors and writers that worked on it.

2023-03-03 02:34:37 +0000 UTCImo the Good Place got stale pretty quickly after the first season. Scrubs' 9th season is considered by pretty much everyone to not exist because it was so bad, and the 8th season wrapped things up perfectly. But Scrubs minus the 9th season is top tier stuff 👌

2023-03-02 20:57:33 +0000 UTCI’m only half way through the episode but this has been one of my fave episodes so far! itd be cool to hear y’all do this with dark comedies!
2023-03-02 19:49:07 +0000 UTCDerry Girls vs Schitts Creek is such a hard seed. Two of the top 10 best sitcoms of all time and we’re pitting them against eachother. I will say though that while Schitts Creek is one of my favorite shows of all time, I don’t think I’ve laughed harder at a tv show than when I’m watching Derry Girls. If only more people had watched it, I’m sure it would’ve won.
