Sketchbook Sunday #3

So I've recently been re-reading one of my favorite comics, Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane (seriously, it's so great), and was thinking about how MJ gets portrayed these days.
For a long time now--even as early as the initial Raimi film--it occurred to me that MJ has frequently been recast essentially as Gwen Stacy but with Mary Jane's name. I love Gwen, and I love MJ, but they are not at all interchangeable. While Gwen is the sweet, intelligent, studious girl-next-door type, Mary Jane was the mercurial, hip, too-cool-for-school party girl. It wasn't until after Gwen's passing that Mary Jane began to mellow out a bit, but she still retained a fierceness to her character.
To make a very long story short, because I could go on about this for a VERY long length of time, I just was thinking that if you were to do a Spider-Man retcon kind of thing (a la the original Ultimate Spider-Man), I believe Mary Jane would be mildly Insta-famous EDM hipster who dreams of one day attending Tomorrowland, as opposed to a trendy J. Crew type or some such thing. Anyway, I just had to doodle out how I thought she might look if you were to take the cast back to high school but for 2017, so that's what this is. I'd make changes, for sure, but like I said, it was a little doodle and this came out, and posting this was an excuse to get some of those thoughts regarding the character off of my chest and out into the public.
