The idea that putting a dirigible in your story inherently makes it lazy without looking at how the story uses the dirigible as a speculative feature to talk about, as an example, the role of technology in the propagation and maintaining of supply lines shows a lack of interest in actually deep analysis. Imagine how you could talk about the role of transportation in the advancement of consumer culture similar to how large container ships facilitate this in our world. But no, if i see a derigrible it must mean the author is taking steam punk backshots. Do you actually enjoy speculative fiction or do you only like it when its edgy and cool?
