Spencer should give Clerks a shot. I think you can kinda understand why critics thought Kevin Smith might be going places, based on it. Limited resources and being unburdened by the pressure of getting called a Generational Talent do a Iot for the guy. Still has various Kevin Smith problems but in what amounts to a regional film they're a lot more palatable. He at least lets the main guy's girlfriend tear him to shreds without redeeming him afterwards.
