TSL Wrapped

That's another year down. These numbers are a bit loose, but the main New Episodes count should be pretty close. 111 compared against last year's 134 (and 2021's ~74), very pleasing. That's like two new episodes a week.

Back in September we lost MEGA. The tsl.chikichiki.tube solution seems to be working well and getting smoother all the time, so I'm looking forward to continuing that in 2024 (with the full support of ChikiChikiTube, I have no idea what I'm doing).

We really hit our stride with raws this year, thanks to various people getting me big batches of stuff and trimming all the new ones, the raw wing is full to bursting (3.8TB). Parts of it are definitely a bit under-organized, with more of a "dump it in here and at least we have it" approach to organization, but none of it is totally out of control so I'm happy enough for the moment.

This is also the year Patreon started up, with €215.22 raised since July! That's not counting the €600 that was dropped all at once by a friend of the library to fund the pair of 18TB drives that the library is spinning on.

All finances are now being tracked (in an actually-legible way) on the finances tab of the master sheet where you can see that the library also has €350.84 in normal funding (which is a combination of PayPal donations and such over time), meaning a grand total of €556.06, which is exciting/scary. Say €300 of that is set aside for replacing a dead HDD, that's €250 or so available. My current thinking is to eventually replace the mobo and cpu of the library server, since the current one is very old and power-hungry, but I'm always open to suggestions for what to do with the money! There's steady income at this point and no real recurring fees, so we're in a good place to make plans.

Speaking of Patreon, I was going back through my other posts and realized that some fucking idiot said something about "weekly" episode recommendations. I absolutely don't think I can hold that pace (as evidenced by only 8 recommendations existing after 5 months), but I'd be happy to go for monthly, or twice-monthly? If anyone is using those?

I guess it's not directly library news, but I made a few more tutorial videos this year, on both raw trimming and manually re-subbing hardsubs.

There are a surprising number of new people on the scene this year doing interesting work! Less surprising is the number of new full auto subs, what with how accessible some of the language models have become. However, right at the end of the year I think g0dai really showed everyone what's possible with these tools if you take your time and pay attention to subbing fundamentals instead of just hitting run and uploading whatever the tool shits out. All of those "I want to help but I don't know any Japanese" folks out there, take heed.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see where things go. I'm hoping to get the master sheet finally sorted out this year; having it generate from the actual existing files rather than relying totally on manual entry (it's already started to drift).

Good luck in 2024, as always please talk to me if you've got any ideas or suggestions or issues. Long may the golden age last ヽ(´ー`)ノ
