VULNERABLE

Where does creativity come from?

Love makes us vulnerable.

There is a certain beauty in vulnerability.

It reveals hidden treasures.

It reveals the truth.

Feeling vulnerable is a feeling of pure honesty.

That somehow makes us realize that life is short and we have so much to offer and to give back.

Or maybe we might just need less?

To provide space for the magic to happen.

The magic comes from the heart, not the mind.

Like when we fall in love.

The fire of creativity emanates from love.

That's how Nature works.

The one we feel when amazed by the perfection of Nature.

The one we feel even when it is rejected.

If humans are moving away from their perfection, perhaps it is because they have remained too long away from Nature.

True love, kind love, devoid of selfishness and possession.

Unconditional love.

Love has become an act of resistance.

A solid foundation on which we can rely.

Cultivating this fire requires courage, forgiveness, understanding, but also accepting that we do not always have to understand.

The unknown has a great power over keeping the fire alive.

This fire is the faith that leads us to trust the unknown and through this, allow it to offer us the best.

When I create, whether it's music, a painting, an artistic collaboration in photography, or something else, I try to avoid expectations.

To get the most out of an artistic collaboration, you have to rely on the trust you have in your colleagues, but above all on their intentions.

It is the sincerity of their intentions and the knowledge of these latter that allows access to the state of vulnerability.

Creativity isn’t a talent you unlock,

It is the life force you forgot you were carrying.

This magical power is in you.

Just remember that any power without conscience becomes a savage weapon.

Beauty has a certain power that when put at the service of a conscious art can provide great changes in the world.

The best way to get a message to be heard is to touch people emotionally.

Before the First World War, art was already thought of as a power of social intervention.

A tool of resistance able to provide changes ?

Bearing witness, denouncing, and reclaiming, art is a means of expression and a driving force for social and political transformation.

“Beauty will save the world.”

Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Idiot

“The measure of intelligence is the ability to change”

Albert Einstein

Earlier this year I started to be afraid of my creativity.

Will it be received, accepted?

I then decided to exult this fear in a painting, remembering that when I started to do nude photography, I received a lot of criticism.

For me nudity has always been something simply natural and I never saw it as a sort of infraction as it remains today in the environment I am adorning.

I grew up in a place where such a thing was considered more as a sacred thing less than a tabou, surrounded by benevolent people, connected with nature, bathing in non intellectualized but soulful arts.

When I arrived in the modern world of big cities I came to think that my sensuality was an issue, that because of it I could not be safe, that because of it I was excluded.

I did not realize that by putting a tabou on something, demonizing it, we were through it suggesting  dangerous patterns to appear.

It is not complicated to understand that by imposing a prohibition we just raise the desire to consume us.

Just as it arises my desire to maintain my statements despite the threatening advises…

Armed with more purposes, by denouncing this tabou, denouncing others by any artistic means became obvious.

I wanted to invite people to see beyond nudity and put beauty at the service of the useful.

Even if I sometimes opt for direct denunciations, I prefer more those of the subtle nature, without having yet detected whether this was a self-protection instinct or to avoid arouse intellectualization, but on the contrary an understanding without mental translations, without « betrayal », a purer one, that of the consciousness, that of the soul, that of the heart.

My passion for creation in all its forms certainly stems from a therapeutic impulse.

As if our inner demons were nothing more than the limits we impose on ourselves.

It feels like it is this fire that frightens the demons.

About the painting : Fire Of Creativity, January 2025, Paris.

(on Instagram only for now, soon to be exhibited)

The atmosphere may seem dark and intense at first glance.

It depicts a mysterious figure with sharp and piercing glowing eyes, framed by strong black lines.

Its triangular face gives it a menacing appearance, its nose and mouth suggesting a predatory or supernatural expression.

The brushstrokes are rough, expressive, and chaotic, adding to the feeling of unease and tension. The body seems partially abstracted into the background, with some faint white highlights suggesting shoulders, arms and female breast.

It feels raw, intense, and emotionally charged, giving a sense of danger, mystery and power.

At the top, there are two pointed, red shapes resembling horns, reinforcing the idea of a devilish or otherworldly entity, but a trained eye will notice that a pearly circular aura emanates from behind.

Some gave me feedbacks corresponding to what I wanted to convey:

It is a mixture of three ideas.

The nine-tailed Kitsune, a cunning spirit and often wielder of magic, gives the character a supernatural, intelligent, and changeable aura. The bright red accents at the top evoke the idea of flaming tails or magical energy.

The faun, a half-human, half-goat creature linked to nature, instinct and wild freedom, brings this animal sensuality, a part of creative chaos that we feel in the rapid brushstrokes and semi-abstract forms.

The fire of creativity evoked by a warm palette (red, orange, brown), and especially by the impression of movement and constant transformation that the painting style suggests. Lively, almost disturbing, but at the same time deeply attractive, exactly as the creative impulse can be.

« When I undress,

Stripping away all the layers that make up my being,

I feel vulnerable.

When I'm vulnerable,

I'm real.

My creative fire ignites in vulnerability.

Dear little light of mine I ‘m gonna let you shine. »

About Marc Hervouët

What I love about his photographic approach is that he likes natural and simple things that reveal the raw beauty of his subject with a lot of innocence.

I have a very fond memory of our shoot.

The two of us were out at sea for three days on his uncle's sailboat.

It was so amazing that we stayed longer than planned and got caught in a storm that stranded us in the open sea after tearing off the sail and flooding the engine.

The radio signal kept cutting out, but when we managed to reach the emergency services, they told us they couldn't come get us, saying it was too dangerous for them…

I was more worried about losing the footage than the real danger of drowning lost in the open sea or crashing into a cliff.

We could hardly see, but we could still see them when we got too close.

We tried to stay between the two, the open sea and the cliffs, so as not to get lost, but with little control over the boat.

The engine could still start, but it only lasted two seconds, so I figured if we accelerated in small bursts of speed while maintaining a precise course, we'd be able to get through it, and we did.

I had to step on a pontoon to stop the boat because we were still coming at a certain speed so I hurt my ankle a little bit.

But it's an experience I'll never forget.

In terms of adrenaline, I've rarely experienced anything like that.
