1.Nan Hengโs maternal uncle is Prime Minister Gao, who controls a faction of court officials. The emperor deeply fears the Gao clanโhe cannot rein them in at all. To balance their power, he married Nan Hengโs mother, yet he also lives in constant dread that the Gao family will seize his throne.
2.In ancient Chinese tradition, a powerful clan needed many heirs. Thatโs why emperors usually had multiple wives and children. In the drama, only the Seventh Prince and the Eighteenth Prince are mentioned. Historically speaking, given the medical standards and ruthless power struggles in the imperial harem for the throne, very few children would have survived.
3.This drama follows the female lead as she travels into a script. Its perspective is different from the usual โtransmigration into a novelโ trope. A script has far less detail than a novel, and Song Yimeng only read the main plotโfrom the original female leadโs point of view. She therefore has no idea what happens from Nan Hengโs perspective. Whatโs more, she is constantly controlled by the script and cannot alter the storyโs path, making her quite stubborn in the early episodes.

I love Riley Wang's role in this series, Shanguan He! The rectangular black block across his eyes! lol! I also like his supporting character role on Back from the Brink. which I still need to finish.

The Emperor disliked Nan Heng before that incident due to his motherโs background and the influence of her family. Since Nan Hengโs uncle basically pressured and forced the Emperor into marrying his sister (Nan Hengโs mother), so Emperor redirected his resentment toward Nan Heng, literal child ๐, as he was powerless against his uncle.
