2024-03-27 23:02:20 +0000 UTCI get the feeling that Askeladd discredits Atli as a warrior, but still got respect (but not respect) for him as a human because of what they been through. Askeladd wants him to continue living a life, but not on the battlefield. He is now a coward in Askeladd eyes, and thats why Askeladd would kill him, no matter what side he’s on.

2024-03-26 20:07:18 +0000 UTCI think Askeladd’s actions toward Atli at the end were genuine and not power games. As we’ve seen throughout the show, everything Askeladd does is for a purpose. The gesture of giving his gold bracelets and telling him to live in peace seems like an act of kindness and almost envy in a way. It’s almost like Askeladd has understood his role in these “royal games” going on, but Atli is the version of himself he really wants to be. Askeladd telling Atli that he would kill him on the battlefield was a way of saying “go live in peace, I really mean it”
