Digi-Boost: From the Past (WIP Preview)

Here's a small sneak peek at a commission I'm working on currently that'll be a Leomon from Digimon TF.

“Dear god, how much crap is back here?!” Shu exclaimed. Spring cleaning was about to be off to a challenging start it would seem for the young man. After being stuck inside for a long while and the world beginning to reopen, he was prepared to clean house and start anew.

It was time for him to determine what was worth keeping and what he was going to get rid of. Starting off his incredible cleaning expedition was with his bedroom closet, which he was sure he hadn’t cleaned up since he first moved into his apartment. And looking inside of it, it was pretty obvious it was in need of some desperate work.

He reached in and yanked out a box… which proceeded to cause an avalanche of more stuff to tumble right out. He jumped back, cursing and mumbling under his breath. This was going to take longer than expected.

Shu sighed and got down on his knees, beginning to shift through the rubble of clothes, games, boxes, books, and everything else in between. Keep this… he thought, forming a ‘Keep’ pile, keep that… this can go… I think… keep this for sure. Keep that… Definitely keep this. Maybe toss this? This…

As he tossed one shirt aside, his gaze fell upon a little trinket covered up by the shirt. It was a little grey gadget with a faded screen on it, a keychain connected to it. He quickly snatched it up and glanced at the back, seeing a familiar word.

“Digimon…” Shu smiled, a sense of childhood joy and excitement filling him. “My old Digimon Pendulum!” He hadn’t seen this little toy in years. Maybe even decades at this point? He remembered so much time playing with the little Virtual Pet toy.

Shu smiled wider. Sadly, his memories were a bit faded on how to actually play the game and what to do, but he could never forget the most important thing about it to him. His Digimon was Leomon, his favorite of the digital monsters. He always loved the big brute lion and it was so much fun to have him as a pet.

He let out a small sigh and looked at the toy. Huh… I wonder… nah… it’s been so many years. No way the battery still works.

But, really, there was no way to be sure unless he tried, right? Shu flipped it back over and futzed about with it. He tapped all the buttons several times, holding a few in for long stretches at a time. He even shook the Pendulum, feeling a bit like a dumb caveman for doing so a second after.

No matter how many times he did that though, luck did not shine favorably on him. The little childhood device would not work.
