Jack hesitated for a moment, unsure of how much he should reveal to Mrs. Hilda. He had always admired her, respected her wisdom, and sought her guidance throughout his time at the orphanage. But now, faced with the reality of attending Hogwarts, he wasn't sure how she would react.
"So, you received your letter from Hogwarts, huh?" Mrs. Hilda spoke before Jack.
Jack's eyes widened in surprise as he looked at Mrs. Hilda. He hadn't expected her to know about the magical world or Hogwarts. The shock momentarily rendered him speechless, his mind racing with questions. How did she know? And more importantly, what did it mean?
"You... you know about Hogwarts?" Jack stammered, his voice filled with a mixture of astonishment and curiosity.
Mrs. Hilda smiled warmly, her gaze filled with understanding. She could sense Jack's confusion and wanted to offer him reassurance.
"Yes, my dear," she replied, her voice gentle and comforting. "I am familiar with the world of magic and Hogwarts. In fact, I have a long history with it."
Jack's eyes widened further, his curiosity piqued. He had never heard Mrs. Hilda speak about her past, and he had no idea that she was connected to the magical world.
"Mrs. Hilda, you were a witch?" he asked, his voice filled with a mix of surprise and excitement.
Mrs. Hilda nodded, a nostalgic glimmer in her eyes. "Yes, Jack. Once upon a time, I was a part of the magical world. But now I am just a retired old woman. That's all you need to know."
"But... Then why did you say that the things I see are my imagination, a trauma, after my parents' disappearance? You lied to me!" Jack stood up from his seat, "Everyone talks behind my back. They say harsh things about me. Why did you do that to me?"
Mrs. Hilda's expression softened, her eyes filled with remorse. She had hoped to protect Jack from the dangers and uncertainties of the magical world, but she now realized that her actions had caused him pain and confusion.
"Jack, I'm truly sorry," she said sincerely, her voice laced with regret. "I lied to you because I believed it was for your own good. I thought that by keeping you away from the magical world, I could protect you from the hardships and dangers that come with it. I didn't want you to face the same sorrows I have experienced."
She took a step closer to him, her voice filled with genuine concern. "But I now realize that I was wrong. I underestimated your strength and your ability to face the truth. I should have been honest with you from the beginning."
Tears welled up in Jack's eyes as he struggled to process Mrs. Hilda's words. He had trusted her, relied on her guidance, and her betrayal cut deep. But beneath his pain, he sensed the sincerity in her voice, the genuine remorse for her actions.
"Why didn't you tell me about the magical world before?" Jack asked, his voice trembling with a mix of anger and vulnerability. "Why did you keep it a secret?"
Mrs. Hilda took a deep breath, trying to find the right words to explain her choices. "Jack, I kept it a secret because I was afraid. I was afraid of losing you, just like I lost your parents. I didn't want you to be caught up in a world filled with danger and uncertainty. I wanted to protect you, but I see now that I made a mistake."
She reached out a hand toward him, her voice filled with sincerity. "I understand if you're angry with me, Jack. And I'm truly sorry for lying to you. But now you have a choice to make. You have the opportunity to attend Hogwarts, to embrace your magical abilities and discover a world that is both wondrous and challenging. It's a decision only you can make."
Jack looked into Mrs. Hilda's eyes, searching for truth and finding a mix of regret and genuine care. The anger within him started to subside, replaced by a growing understanding of Mrs. Hilda's intentions.
Jack's heart was heavy with conflicting emotions. On one hand, he felt betrayed by Mrs. Hilda's deception and the knowledge that people had been talking about him behind his back. But on the other hand, he understood that Mrs. Hilda's actions stemmed from a place of love and a desire to protect him.
As he gazed at Mrs. Hilda, he could see the sincerity in her eyes, her remorse for the pain she had caused him. He knew that she had dedicated her life to caring for him and the other children at the orphanage, and her intentions had always been rooted in love.
Taking a deep breath, Jack tried to steady his racing thoughts. He had dreamed of attending Hogwarts ever since he discovered his own magical abilities, and now that the opportunity was within his grasp, he had to decide.
Well, the answer was simple. Jack has decided to venture into the world of magic after he received the letter and his encounter with the old man inside the Veil. He is going to unearth the secrets and plot behind his parents' disappearance.
Jack wiped away the tears from his eyes, his resolve firming within him. He had always felt a connection to the magical world, and now he understood that his destiny was intertwined with it. He couldn't let fear and anger hold him back from discovering the truth about his parents and the path they had taken.
"Mrs. Hilda," he began, his voice steady but filled with determination, "I appreciate your intentions, but I can't ignore the magical abilities I possess or the truth that awaits me at Hogwarts. I want to attend the school and learn about my parents, about their choices and the secrets that lie within the magical world."
He paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts before continuing. "I understand the risks and uncertainties, but I can't live my life in fear and isolation. I need to find my place in this world and uncover the truth that has haunted me for so long. Hogwarts is the first step in that journey."
Mrs. Hilda's eyes softened as she listened to Jack's words. Though it pained her to see him choose a path that held potential dangers, she knew deep down that he was right. Jack deserved to know the truth and to explore the world that was rightfully his.
"I understand, Jack," she said, her voice filled with both sadness and support. "I may have shielded you in the past, but I won't stand in your way now. If attending Hogwarts is what you truly desire, then I will support you every step of the way. You deserve to uncover the truth and find your place in this world."
A small smile tugged at the corners of Jack's lips, grateful for Mrs. Hilda's understanding and acceptance. He knew that his journey wouldn't be easy, but with her support and guidance, he felt a newfound sense of courage.
"Thank you, Mrs. Hilda," Jack said sincerely, his voice filled with gratitude. "I appreciate your support more than words can express. I won't let you down. I'll make you proud."
Mrs. Hilda's smile widened, a glimmer of pride shining in her eyes. "You already have, Jack. Your strength, resilience, and the choices you make define who you are. I have no doubt that you will make a difference in the magical world."
She walked closer to Jack, wrapping her arms around him in a comforting embrace. "Remember, Hogwarts is not just a school. It's a place where you'll find friends, mentors, and a community that will support you. Embrace your abilities, but also stay true to your values and never forget the lessons you've learned here."
"Yeah, Jax told me all about Hogwarts. But Mrs. Hilda I want to ask you something... Please tell me more about my parents. I... I can't even remember their faces anymore," Jack's request brought a somber expression to Mrs. Hilda's face. She understood the pain and longing in his voice, the desperate need to reconnect with his parents and fill the void that their absence had left.
