He knew that asking Jax to make Sara forget about him would be a painful choice, but he believed it was necessary for her safety and well-being. He took a deep breath, steeling himself for what needed to be done.
"Jax, I know it's a difficult request, but I need you to use your magic to erase Sara's memories of me," Jack said, his voice filled with a mixture of sadness and determination.
Jax's eyes flickered with a mix of concern and empathy. As an elf bound by loyalty, he understood the gravity of Jack's request, but he also recognized the love and selflessness behind it.
"Master, are you certain about this? Erasing memories is a delicate and might be an irreversible process," Jax replied, his voice laced with caution.
Jack nodded, his eyes brimming with tears that he fought to hold back. "I am certain, Jax. It's for her own good. If she learns that I am about to go away far from her, she might not be able to endure it. She won't be able to trust anyone ever again, Jax..."
"Go away?! You are thinking of going to the world of magic?" Jax asked.
Jack met Jax's gaze, his eyes filled with a mix of determination and sorrow. "Yes, Jax. We both knew that one day or another, I would have to face the reality. The encounter in the Veil, the old man, and the mysteries surrounding my parents have shown me that my destiny lies in the world of magic. I need to uncover the truth and find closure."
"So, it begins once again. The Veil's chosen. It never ends well, master. It never does... But, I respect your decision," Jax replied, realizing the weight of Jack's words. He knew that his young master's decision was driven by love and a sense of duty. With a heavy heart, he nodded in acceptance.
Jack reached out and placed a hand on Jax's small shoulder, appreciating the elf's understanding and support. The weight of his decision pressed heavily on him, but he knew that it was the right path to follow.
"Thank you, Jax. Your loyalty and friendship mean the world to me," Jack said, his voice filled with gratitude.
Jax's eyes softened, and he nodded. "I will do as you ask, master. But using spells on muggles... might bring unnecessary trouble."
"Muggles?" Jack asked.
"Muggles," Jax explained, "is the term wizards and witches use to refer to non-magical people like your sister and many others in the world. Using magic on them directly is against the laws and regulations of the wizarding world. It's known as the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy."
Understanding the implications, Jack furrowed his brow, "I don't want either of us to land into any trouble, but..."
Jack's voice trailed off as he pondered the situation. He knew that using magic on a non-magical person, especially without their consent, was strictly prohibited in the wizarding world. He didn't want to put Sara, Jax, or himself at risk of exposure or legal consequences.
"Isn't there any other way?" Jack asked.
Jax furrowed his brow, contemplating the options. He knew that directly using magic on Sara would indeed pose a risk. After a moment of reflection, a glimmer of an idea crossed his mind.
Jax's eyes brightened as the idea took shape in his mind. "Master, you remember the mirror we discovered in the basement?"
"Yes, and you said it's a regular mirror," Jack replied, his curiosity piqued by Jax's mention of the mirror.
Jax nodded, a spark of excitement in his eyes. "Indeed, it's a regular mirror, but what if someone puts a charm on it and Sara accidentally stumbles upon it and activates it?"
Jack's eyes widened with intrigue as he listened to Jax's suggestion. The idea of using a charmed mirror to indirectly modify Sara's memories seemed like a plausible solution. It would allow him to ensure her safety without directly violating the magical laws.
"Tell me more about this charm, Jax," Jack urged, leaning closer to the elf.
Jax smiled, his eyes shining with enthusiasm. "The charm I have in mind is known as the Memory Reflection Charm. It's a spell that, when activated, reflects the memories of the person who gazes into the mirror. If we modify the charm, we can make it selectively reflect and alter specific memories."
Jack's mind raced with possibilities as he considered Jax's proposal. The Memory Reflection Charm seemed like a viable solution to modify Sara's memories indirectly, without directly involving magic on her or risking exposure to the wizarding world. He knew that he had to proceed with caution and plan every step carefully.
"Jax, that sounds like a plan," Jack said, his voice filled with determination. "But we need to be careful and discreet. I don't want to put Sara in any danger or raise suspicion."
Jax nodded in agreement, understanding the need for caution. "I will handle the modification of the charm and ensure its activation when the time is right. But we must find a way to guide Sara toward the mirror without arousing her suspicion."
Jack pondered for a moment, thinking about how he could subtly steer Sara's attention toward the mirror without raising any alarms. He knew he had to be patient and wait for the opportune moment.
As Jack contemplated the best approach, he recalled Sara going through her parents' belongings every night before going to bed.
The idea sparked in Jack's mind. He realized that he could strategically place the mirror among her parents' belongings, making it appear as if Sara had stumbled upon it while exploring their memories. It would seem like a natural progression for her to discover the mirror during her nightly routine.
A sense of relief washed over Jack as he formulated the plan in his mind. It felt like a way to preserve Sara's innocence while guiding her toward the mirror and ensuring her memories were modified.
"Jax, I think I have an idea," Jack said, a spark of excitement in his eyes. "Sara often goes through her parents' belongings before bed. If we place the mirror strategically among their possessions, it will seem like she stumbled upon it during her exploration."
Jax's eyes widened with understanding, realizing the cleverness of Jack's plan. "That could work, master. By making it appear as if Sara found the mirror naturally, it will reduce suspicion and keep her from questioning its origin."
Jack nodded, feeling a renewed sense of hope. "Exactly, Jax. We'll have to be careful and discreet while placing the mirror, ensuring it blends seamlessly with their belongings. Sara won't suspect a thing."
Jack and Jax turned their attention to the unexpected visitor perched on the table—an elegant white owl with piercing amber eyes. Its arrival was an interruption to their planning, but its presence carried an air of significance.
"An owl? Who could it be from?" Jack wondered aloud, his gaze fixated on the feathered messenger.
Jax, with his sharp intuition, knew exactly where the owl was from after a single glance at the letter, "Hogwarts!"
"What's that?" Jack inquired.
"Hogwarts," Jax replied, a note of excitement in his voice. "It's a prestigious school of witchcraft and wizardry. If you have received a letter from Hogwarts, it means that you have been accepted as a student."
Jack's eyes widened in astonishment, his heart pounding with a mix of anticipation and disbelief. The idea of attending a magical school like Hogwarts had always been a distant dream, a mere fantasy he had nurtured in his heart.
"Accepted? But how? I didn't even apply!" Jack exclaimed, his mind racing with questions.
Jax picked up the letter and examined the elegant seal, recognizing the emblem of Hogwarts engraved on it. "Sometimes, Hogwarts sends letters to young wizards and witches who display extraordinary magical potential. It seems that they have recognized your abilities, young master."
Jack's thoughts whirled as he absorbed the implications of the letter. His journey to uncover the truth about his parents, the old man in the Veil, and now the opportunity to attend Hogwarts—it all seemed interconnected, pieces of a larger puzzle falling into place.
'So this is what that old man meant when he said that they have found me,' Jack thought.
