Ch: 4 [Beyond the dreams pt2]

Jack found himself standing in a desolate landscape shrouded in mist. The air was heavy with an eerie silence, broken only by the distant hoot of an owl. The flickering streetlamp cast long shadows, revealing an old man with a long white beard sitting on a worn-out bench beneath its dim glow. His presence emanated a mysterious aura, drawing Jack closer with a mix of trepidation and curiosity.

As Jack approached, the old man turned his head slowly, his eyes twinkling with ancient wisdom. His wrinkled face bore the marks of countless years, etched with lines that told tales of forgotten realms and hidden knowledge. He wore tattered robes adorned with intricate symbols, as if each thread held a story of its own.

"Hello!" Jack said awkwardly, "Sir, can you tell me where I am and what this weird place is?"

The old man's voice carried a weight of time and experience as he spoke, his words laced with a hint of mystery. "Ah, young traveler, you have ventured into the realm beyond the dreams, where the boundaries of reality blur and the secrets of the universe unfold. This place is known as the Veil, a mystical realm that exists between the waking world and the realm of magic."

Jack's eyes widened with both wonder and apprehension. He had heard tales of such mystical realms but had never imagined he would find himself standing in one. "The Veil... But how did I end up here? And what is the purpose of this place?"

The old man's gaze intensified, his eyes peering into Jack's soul. "You have been chosen, young one. The Veil has called upon you to embark on a journey, a quest of great importance. It is a path that will test your courage, strength, and resolve. The purpose of this place is to reveal the hidden truths, to grant wisdom and guidance to those who seek it."

Jack's heart quickened with a mix of excitement and trepidation. He had always yearned for something greater, a purpose that would help him understand the reason behind his ability to see and converse with beings, invisible to normal eyes. Now, standing before this enigmatic figure in the Veil, he sensed that his destiny was about to unfold.

The old man motioned for Jack to take a seat on the bench beside him. Jack obliged, his eyes never leaving the old man's face, hungry for answers and guidance.

"Tell me, young one," the old man began, his voice carrying a gentle yet commanding tone. "What is it that you seek? There must be something or else you wouldn't be here."

Jack pondered the question, his thoughts weaving through the tapestry of his experiences. "I seek understanding," he replied earnestly. "I want to understand the nature of the magical beings I can see, the purpose behind my abilities, and the role I am meant to play in this world. I want to protect and provide for my sister, Sara, and create a better future for all the children who call the orphanage home."

The old man nodded sagely, as if he had already glimpsed the depths of Jack's heart. "Your desires are noble, young one. The journey that lies ahead will test not only your resolve but also your character. The Veil has sensed your potential, and it has called upon you to awaken the latent powers within you."

Jack's eyes widened in surprise. "Powers? What powers do you speak of?"

The old man smiled knowingly, his gaze fixed on the distant horizon. "In the realm of magic, young one, every being possesses a unique gift, a power that is waiting to be discovered and honed. It is through this power that you will find the strength to protect or destroy."

Jack's heart raced at the mention of hidden powers within him. He had always felt a connection to something greater, an energy that surged through his veins whenever he was near magical beings. Now, the old man's words confirmed what he had sensed all along—that he possessed an untapped potential.

"But how do I discover and harness this power?" Jack asked, his voice tinged with a mixture of excitement and apprehension.

The old man turned his gaze back to Jack, his eyes filled with ancient knowledge. "To unlock your power, you must embark on a journey of self-discovery and growth outside of this dream realm. The path will not be easy, but it is necessary to uncover the depths of your abilities. Young one, you must venture into the world of Wizards and Witches... Your first test is to learn the basic foundation of magic."

"But... I..." Jack stuttered. After a pause, he continued, "I can't possibly leave Sara and go on a journey."

The old man's expression softened, his eyes conveying understanding. "Young one, the journey you are about to undertake is not one of abandonment but rather of empowerment. By discovering your true potential, you will become a greater source of strength and protection for your sister and those you care for. You must trust in the magic that resides within you and believe that your path will ultimately lead to a better future for all."

Jack's heart wavered between his desire for knowledge and his responsibility towards Sara. The weight of his decision pressed heavily upon him, torn between the yearning for self-discovery and the need to be there for his sister.

The old man leaned closer, his voice gentle yet firm. "Jack, the path of destiny is rarely straightforward. It requires sacrifice, but it also offers rewards beyond measure. Your journey will not be without its challenges, but remember that you are not alone. The magical beings that have guided you thus far will continue to watch over Sara and provide her with the protection she needs. Trust in the bond you share with her, and trust in yourself."

Jack's inner turmoil gradually subsided as the old man's words resonated within him. He knew that he couldn't let fear or doubt hold him back from his true potential. Sara's safety and well-being were at the core of his being, and he understood that embarking on this journey was a way to ensure a brighter future for them both.

Taking a deep breath, Jack looked into the old man's eyes with newfound determination. "I understand. If learning magic could provide a better life for Sara and everyone, then I will go, sir. I will embark on this journey to unlock my powers and fulfill my purpose. But how and where? I don't even know where to start."

The old man's eyes sparkled with approval as Jack made his decision. "Young one, you possess the spirit of a true seeker. Fear not, for they have already found you."

"They?!" Jack asked.

"You will soon understand. For now, choose one of the keys from many, for it will decide your destiny," The old man took out his wand and skillfully swang it, "Revelio"

As the old man waved his wand and uttered the incantation, a shimmering light enveloped the air around them. From the mist emerged an array of keys, each one radiating a unique energy. They hovered in front of Jack, seemingly waiting for him to make his choice.

"WOW!!!" Jack was stunned by the sight of magic. He haven't seen or met anyone other than Jax and the creatures who could use magic.

Jack's gaze darted from one key to another, their intricate designs captivating his attention. Each key held the promise of a different path, a different destiny. He pondered the significance of his decision, knowing that it would shape the course of his journey.

After a moment of contemplation, Jack's eyes settled on a key, different from the others. All the other keys were glowing and shimmering with energy and ethereal glow, but a single key wasn't showing any sign of glow or otherworldly presence.

Its surface was dull and unremarkable, appearing almost ordinary compared to the rest. Yet, there was something about this key that called out to Jack, as if it held a secret power waiting to be discovered.

Without hesitation, Jack reached out and grasped the unassuming key, feeling a surge of anticipation and curiosity. As he held it in his hand, a faint warmth spread from his palm, as if the key itself acknowledged his choice.

The old man's eyes gleamed with a mix of satisfaction and intrigue. "Ah, a most interesting choice, young one."
