She was fully immersed in her duties, ensuring the smooth functioning of the newly established colonies. Her mind was focused, her determination unwavering, as she carried the weight of responsibility on her shoulders.
James Vega, on the other hand, led his regiment through a rigorous training exercise in the nearby simulation room. Sweat glistened on his forehead as he pushed himself and his soldiers to their limits. He believed in leading by example, instilling discipline and resilience in his team, and readying them for any future threats.
As they continued their separate tasks, a summons from Admiral Hackett interrupted their routines.
[Command Room]
Ashley and James exchanged curious glances, wondering what could have prompted such a meeting. They made their way to the Admiral's office, their minds racing with possibilities.
The door to Admiral Hackett's office slid open, revealing the stern face of the seasoned military leader. He gestured for Ashley and James to take a seat, his gaze assessing and expectant.
"Williams, Vega," Admiral Hackett began, his voice carrying an air of authority. "I've been keeping a close eye on your performance since the end of the Reaper War. Your dedication and skills have not gone unnoticed."
Ashley's eyes widened slightly, her heart quickening with anticipation. James, too, leaned forward, his focus laser-sharp as he awaited the admiral's words.
Admiral Hackett continued, his tone measured yet filled with pride. "It is my pleasure to inform you both that you have been offered promotions. Ashley, you have been chosen to assume the rank of Admiral, stepping into the esteemed position once held by the late David Anderson. And James, your exceptional leadership qualities have earned you the opportunity to become a Commander."
Shock and a mix of emotions swept over Ashley and James. The weight of the honor and responsibility settled upon them, blending with their sense of duty and dedication. Their paths, once intertwined as comrades-in-arms, were now diverging into new territories of leadership.
Ashley composed herself, meeting Admiral Hackett's gaze with resolve. "Thank you, Admiral. I am deeply honored to be considered for such a significant position. I will do everything in my power to uphold the values and principles that Anderson stood for."
James nodded, his gratitude evident in his voice. "I appreciate the recognition, Admiral. I've always aimed to be the best soldier I can be. Becoming a Commander is a privilege, and I will continue to lead with integrity and loyalty."
Admiral Hackett's expression softened, pride glimmering in his eyes. "I have full confidence in both of you. Your experience, skills, and dedication make you well-suited for these roles. The Alliance needs strong leaders like you to guide us into a new era of peace and progress."
Ashley and James exchanged a glance, their shared journey reaching a pivotal moment. They had faced countless trials and triumphs together, and now their paths were diverging. But their bond remained unbreakable, rooted in their shared commitment to protect humanity and uphold the ideals they held dear.
As they left Admiral Hackett's office, a mixture of excitement and trepidation filled their thoughts. They knew that their promotions would bring new challenges and responsibilities, but they were prepared to face them head-on. With determination burning in their hearts, they were ready to embrace the next chapter in their military careers, continuing to strive for excellence and lead by example.
United by their unwavering dedication to the Alliance, Ashley, and James walked side by side, their steps imbued with purpose.
As Ashley and James stepped out of Admiral Hackett's office, their minds filled with thoughts of their newfound promotions, a lighthearted banter began to weave its way between them. James couldn't help but seize the opportunity to tease his longtime comrade.
"Admiral Williams, huh?" James said, a mischievous twinkle in his eye. "I guess that means I'll have to address you with a lot more respect now, huh?"
Ashley rolled her eyes, a playful smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. "Oh, please, Commander Vega. Don't let that title get to your head. We all know rank doesn't change who I am."
James chuckled, playfully nudging her shoulder. "I know, I know. But it's still fun to give you a hard time. Besides, you'll have to get used to all those formalities and fancy meetings. I can already imagine you donning a fancy Admiral's uniform, all prim and proper."
Ashley shook her head, unable to suppress her laughter. "You're impossible, James. Just because you're not joining the Admiralty doesn't mean you can mock me."
James feigned a hurt expression, placing a hand over his heart. "Mock? Me? Never, Admiral."
Ashley couldn't help but chuckle at James's playful antics. Despite the weighty responsibilities that lay ahead, their camaraderie remained intact, providing a sense of familiarity and levity in the midst of their new roles.
"You better watch your back, Commander," Ashley retorted, a gleam of mischief in her eyes. "With my newfound authority, I might just have to assign you to the most tedious missions."
James raised an eyebrow, a grin spreading across his face. "Oh, is that a threat, Admiral? Well, I'll have you know that I'm an expert at charming my way out of any assignment. Maybe I'll even convince you to join me on a few adventures."
The two friends shared a knowing smile, their shared history and trust underscoring their banter. As they walked side by side, their playful exchange eased any lingering tension, reminding them that no matter their ranks or titles, they would always be a team.
"Deal, Commander," Ashley replied, her tone teasing. "But only if you promise not to make me regret this promotion."
James extended a hand, as if sealing their agreement. "You have my word, Admiral. Together, we'll navigate these new waters and continue to make a difference."
They shook hands.
"Haaa," Ashley sighed, "Still can't believe it's been 5 years since the war."
James nodded, a reflective expression crossing his face. "Yeah, time flies, doesn't it? It feels like just yesterday we were fighting on the frontlines."
Ashley's gaze turned distant, her mind momentarily drifting back to the harrowing days of the Reaper War. "So much has changed since then," she said, her voice tinged with a mix of nostalgia and gratitude. "We've lost friends, and witnessed unimaginable destruction, but we've also seen the strength of humanity and the galaxy as a whole."
James nodded in agreement, his expression solemn. "We've seen the best and worst of it all. But despite the losses, we've managed to stand tall, united. And now, with our promotions, we have an opportunity to shape the future, to rebuild, and ensure that the sacrifices made during the war were not in vain. Isn't this what we have fought so hard?"
They came across a group of newbies.
"You are right," Ashley replied as she noticed some familiar faces among the newbie, "Say, James, do you ever think about the day you first joined the Alliance?"
James glanced at the group of newcomers, memories flooding his mind. He let out a nostalgic sigh before responding to Ashley's question.
"Every now and then," he admitted, his gaze fixed on the eager faces of the recruits. "I remember how green and full of hope I was, ready to take on the galaxy. It was a different time back then, before the Reaper threat, before we faced the weight of the world on our shoulders."
Ashley nodded, her gaze following James's as they watched the fresh-faced recruits, their eyes filled with determination and a hint of naivety. "We were just like them once," she mused, a wistful smile playing on her lips. "Eager to make a difference, to protect and serve. And now, here we are, leading the way for the next generation."
James nodded, a sense of responsibility and pride settling within him. "It's our duty to guide them, to pass on our experiences, and to ensure they're prepared for the challenges they'll face. God knows what else is hiding out there after the reapers. But this time we will be ready."

Meanwhile, Jack was lying on the bed in Shepard's cabin, looking at their couple picture they had taken before the final battle.
"Huh?!" Jack's eyes went toward her omnitool, "EDI?"
"Jack, I have received a distress signal... It's faint, but..."
