BlackStar - Fleischer Superman

Look at that! It’s BlackStar’s second ever non-Batman release! And wow do they know how to design figs or what! The receding hairline, the perfect facial designs, that short cape! It’s all really good stuff!

I really don’t have many negatives to give this one. I think if there was a continuation of the belt a full 360° around the torso I’d be happier though! Part of me wishes that at $80 for this fella, we could’ve gotten more print and less packaging materials (like seriously, there’s so much “stuff” included in and around BlackStar’s clamshells!)

I guess in some ways there might be collectors out there that think it’s actually a good design decision to not include side-torso printing. And sure it does look more like the “leading brand’s style” or whatever those nut job collectors would say to justify it! But this nut job right here thinks that BlackStar has done wrap-around belts before and they easily could have done it again! 

I also think I would’ve preferred to have the neckline ink aligned to be ever closer to the top of the torso. Since as it is now, it leaves a teeeeeny time bit of a gap of blue on either side of the torso.

Almost like how official Lego figs have the window margin for their own massive mass production PAD Printers. In a way I’m sure folks might appreciate that design choice, again going for an “official Lego” look. I get it! I hear you! But you're all wrong and that's okay and I'm sorry.

But truly, these are nitpicky things at best! Outside of that rant, everything else about the design is fantastic! The simple torso design with the implied barrel chest that’s warping the emblem! Both of those perfectly recreated facial designs! Graphically speaking, BlackStar NAILED it in the 2D field!

And then of course gave us a home run with the custom parts! Dare I say, they’re hyper clean! BS’s quality of molded elements improves with every release they bring! 

There was also a Bizzaro color chase variant but it sold out in seconds! Not to mention that I didn’t really want it anyway, but here’s how it looked for completion's sake

Instead of BlackStar making a non-existent version of Bizzaro quite literally 15years to early, I would have loved it if they instead would've made a Fleischer Lois Lane to accompany this fella!

She’s a far more integral character to those animated shorts and would have been a lovely pairing! Now instead I’m gonna have to figure out a way to fig-barf one instead… that old 1940s hair style is gonna be tough… 🤔

But for now! Superman here is good stuff yet again from BlackStar! Very good stuff!
