That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Goblin Girl Chapter 31

“Woah, there are so many people~!” I yelled out in excitement, looking at all the people through the window of the carriage.

Back home, I wasn’t allowed out much because it was for my own safety, so seeing new places was exciting.

“Illya, please sit down. There are a few bumps up ahead. We wouldn’t want you to lose your balance and hurt yourself,” Auntie Sara said, holding my waist to keep me steady.”

“O- wait! I want that!”

Just as I was about to sit down, I saw something that I have desperately craving for years; cotton candy!

“Illya, there is a big dinner ready for us when we get to the mansion, with a bunch of desserts. Are you sure that you want that?” grandfather asked me, trying to convince me. Earlier, he stopped me from getting a candy apple, saying that it was bad for my teeth, but this time I wouldn’t let him stop me.

I’ve been cooped up in this carriage for hours as well, and I need to stretch my legs.

“Yes! Please, grandpa!”

“I think we should,” Auntie Sara said, agreeing with me. “It would be a good excuse to let her work off some of that excess energy that she has right now. She’s probably getting antsy.”

“Please, grandpa! Please~!”

“Sigh, fine, but only for a little bit, and you have to hold both of our hands. I don’t want you wandering off.”

“Yes! Thank you grandpa, I yelled, jumping over and hugging him.

“Alright, we are taking a break here. Find a quiet place to stop.”

“Yes, sir.”

The carriage was pulled over in a less crowded area, but luckily there was still cotton candy being sold over there. In fact, there was cotton candy being sold all around. It was a bit strange, but who was I to question it?

“One cotton candy, please.”

“Right away, sir, one of the vendors said, handing my grandfather.

“Thank you,” grandfather said, holding out the cotton candy for me to take a bit, but I paused.

I felt strange the closer the cotton candy was to me. It felt similar to when I came close to items imbued with magic. But why would cotton candy have magic in it?

“Grandpa, I changed my mind. I want macaroons.”

“Are you sure?” He asked, looking concerned. He must think that I’m being one of those spoiled babies right now, but I just couldn’t help but feel like something would go wrong if I ate that cotton candy.

“Yes! Grandpa and Auntie Sara should eat cotton candy!”

“Sir, you shouldn’t take food from your granddaughter. I’m sure that you don’t want to spend more money than you have to. I’m sure that once she takes a bite, she’ll love it.”

Hmm? Why was the vendor insisting that I eat the cotton candy?

“Sorry, but if she’s insisting, then there is no reason for me to for her. Here you can have this back, and don’t worry about paying me back.”

“Sir please…”

Grandfather didn’t bother to let the man finish speaking as we made our way to get the macaroons, and I have to say that they were delicious. I ate so many that I ended up passing out for the remainder of the trip.

By the time I woke up again, it was the middle of the night, and I found myself in a gigantic bed It was so big that I run around on it without having to worry about falling off.

Well, seeing that I was awake right now, there was no reason for me not to explore, right?

I jumped off my bed, wearing nothing but my nightgown, and slowly opened my bedroom door. I saw a few maids still walking around, but they wouldn’t be able to see me because I was so small. Hehehe~. This was going to be fun.

The mansion in the capital was much different than I remembered. Everything felt so big and confusing that I felt like I was in a maze. I wonder if I can find the place where they are keeping my presents. I would love to… huh, who’s that?

All of a sudden, I saw a sketchy-looking man wandering the halls. He was dressed like a thief, and it was clear that he didn’t belong here. Perhaps I could see where he was going and tell grandfather.

I followed the sketchy man throughout the manner until he reach what looked like a small office in the middle of nowhere.

“You what!?”

I stopped dead in my tracks, hearing muffled shouting, but the voice was one that I could clearly remember; Uncle Damien. I knew that it wasn’t safe, but I wanted to hear what they were talking about. Grandfather said that Damien was a bad person because he didn’t learn from his mistakes. What was he planning this time?

“How dare you come back empty-handed!”

“I’m sorry, sir, but children change their minds very quickly. There are still other opportunities. We can always try again,” the sketchy man said, bowing his head.

“Try again? Do you really think that he’ll let her out alone after what happened today? You failed your job to drug the girl and almost got caught by the old man. We will have to change the plan.”

“But sir our original plan took weeks to make. Setting up cotton candy shops in every town that had to go through to each town they stopped at took way too long.”

“I don’t care. So long as that brat is alive, she is a threat to me taking my place as Duke. Besides, we can’t have one of those things in a seat of power.”

“Sir?”

“Goblins! That unruly brat is a goblin!”

“What! Sir, how is that possible!?”

What? Did he know? How did Damien know that I was a goblin? I never show my green skin to anyone. How?

“Well, it hasn’t been confirmed yet that bitch is a goblin, but her maids are. My spy at my uncle's estate told me that they saw clear signs of green skin across their bodies. There is no doubt that they are goblins disguising themselves as elves. Plus, reports say that they have aged much faster than normal elves, just like goblins.”

No. How could this be? Sola and Tully were in danger as well? I had to do something, but what? If I told grandfather this, would he believe me?

“It sickens me, knowing that my uncle allowed such hideous creatures inside of my future estate. The fact alone that he didn’t kill them already means he is going against humanity. We will have to down both him and the girl in one fell swoop. Make the preparations.”

“As you command sir,” the sketchy man said, bowing to Damien.

I had to get out of here. If they see me here, they catch me and kill me.

CREAK!

No… what have I done? Before I realized it, I unconsciously tried to use the door to support my body, making it move slightly.

“What was that?”

“Sir, it would seem that we have a rat, shall I take care of it?”

“Yes, but make it quick.”

I ran. I didn’t know what to do, so I ran through the darkness of the corridors, hoping that I could escape, but I could hear his footsteps fast behind me. He was going to kill me. The moment I stop moving he is going to kill me.

No, no, no. I didn’t want to die. Please leave me alone, I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die like mom and the rest of the goblins. Please leave me alone, please!

“Grandpa! Grandpa!”

I couldn’t help but scream for grandpa. I was scared. I didn’t want to die. My legs felt like lead, and my lungs were on fire, but I couldn’t stop. I could still hear him fast approaching. Please, grandpa, please. I don’t want to die.

“Gran-mmmppphhh~!!!!”

“Caught you~.” The man grabbed me, covering my mouth so I couldn’t scream for help. “Naughty child, you should have stayed in bed. Though I must say how wonderful that you came to me. This makes my job so much easier~.”

“Mmmmppphhh~!!!”

I couldn’t help but cry, unable to move, unable to resist. I didn’t want to die again. Please grandpa! Save me!

“Don’t worry I promise that I make this quick~. You are quite a nuisance to many people. They will be happy to know that you are now gone. If only we had the time, I would love watching you squirm, you filthy gob-ack! …W-what?”

The man’s grip loosened as he coughed up something on me, before releasing his grip. I was about to be dropped to the ground, but soon a pair of warm hands caught me.

“Grandpa? Grandpa! I-I-I scared~! Wahhhhh~!!!”

Upon seeing his worried expression, I burst into tears. I didn’t want to die; I didn’t want to die. Why? Why? Why couldn’t I live as me? Why did I have to suffer?

“It’s okay now Illya, the bad man is gone. He can’t hurt you anymore,” he gently said, letting me shove my face into his chest. It was the only place I felt safe, the only place I would die.

I didn’t want to see it. I didn’t want to see it. It wasn’t there. It didn’t happen. Mommy wanted me to live. I was alive. I had to live. I didn’t want to end up like mommy. I was a good girl. Please let me live, please.

“Uncle, what happened!?” Auntie Sara yelled, running, after hearing all the noise. “Is Illya? Is she alright?”

“Physically yes, but I don’t think that we should leave this area.”

I could feel him move us away from the area, but I couldn’t think about that.

“No die. I don’t want to die. Please don’t let me die, I don’t want to die. I’m a good girl. Please don’t let me die. I don’t want to die. Please don’t let me die, I don’t want to die. I’m a good girl. Please don’t let me die. I don’t want to die. Please don’t let me die, I don’t want to die. I’m a good girl. Please don’t let me die.”

“Uncle?”

“Illya, it’s alright, your safe, your safe,” grandpa said trying to comfort me.

“I don’t want to die.

“Illya! Please snap out of it!” Sara yelled, crying.

“I don’t want to die.

“Sara, call the arch-priest now! This is an emergency!”
