I Never Wanted To Be A Villainess!!! Chapter 6: Failed Task

For once, Rosa was happy to see this screen pop up before her eyes. The prince was nothing more than a spoiled brat. Mentally speaking, Rosa was older than him, though ever since entering this body, her mind has become more and more childlike. Seeing that she was being given the opportunity to teach him a lesson, there was no reason why she would be able to.

Rosa could feel her mother’s frustration as she held her hand. As an adult, her mother would get in trouble for insulting the prince here, but seeing that she was a child, she could probably get away with it.

“I… I have something to say,” Rosa said, building up the courage to talk, hoping that she wouldn’t make the wrong mistake.

“What is it, child?” the king asked, curious as to what Rosa had to say.

“I will never love the prince. I… I could never love someone like him.” Rosa knew that she was breaking away from the game, but she couldn’t stand spending eight years lusting after a prince that would never love her for who she was.

“…” Julian was shocked. He had never expected that she would hate him this much, over a stupid comment he made before. Everyone had always done what he had told them to do. Why was she different?

“What!? You ungrateful wench! How dare you speak to my son that way!?” the queen yelled at Rosa, flustered by the young girl who denied the apology from her son. She only agreed to this engagement because her precious son begged for it. Seeing how this little wench was acting now, meant that she would need to show her, her place properly.

“Your majesty, please, you misunderstand my daughter’s words,” Relena said, to the queen, surprised that her daughter worked up the courage to say that. Her face must be beat red from embarrassment right now. “What she means to say is that she has no right to love the prince. Such a thing is impossible for her to even dream for.”

“Hah! I really am that great aren’t I,” the prince said with a smug expression across his face. “Don’t worry. I’m sure that you’ll accept my love in time and then take off that stupid mask of yours.

[You have failed to properly deny the prince’s advance and teach him a lesson. You shall now face a punishment of your own. Please try better next time.]

What!!? How did she fail? She properly expressed that he wouldn’t be able to possess her by saying that she’ll never love him. Did she do something wrong? Or was it because her mother made it sound like a misunderstanding that she failed? And what punishment would she face?

“Be that as it may, an insult is an insult,” the queen said, already pissed off by looking at Rosa’s blank white mask. She wanted to see her humiliated just as she did to her son.

“...Excuse me, I brought refreshments,” a maid said, walking in while carrying a tray of tea. “”Allow me to-ahhhh~!!!!” All of a sudden, as if compelled by an outside force, the maid tripped, causing all of the tea she had to land right onto Rosa, drenching her.

“Kyaaaa~!!! I’m so sorry!” the made yelled, lowering her head to the ground, immediately realizing her mistake. She even did her best to pick up the broken tea cups. Luckily only the lukewarm tea landed on her, so she was injured but humiliated.

Was this the punishment that the system spoke of? Because she failed to humiliate the prince, she was humiliated instead. How powerful was the system?

“Rosa, are you alright?” Relena asked, concerned that Rosa might have been burnt.

“I… I’m fine,” Rosa said, embarrassed and sad that all the hard work her maids had done, had just gone to waste. The tea wasn’t that hot, but her dress was ruined, and there was no way that she could attend the party now. Ugh! What was she going to do?

“You clumsy maid! How dare you!?” the queen yelled at the maid, finding the perfect person to vent her anger out at. However, she couldn’t help but feel pleased that Rosa suffered like this after what she said to her son. This must have been a gift from the gods.

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I’m sorry, please forgive me, it was an accident. I don’t know what happened!” the mad was crying, unable to conduct herself properly in front of the queen.

“Sorry? Do you think that saying sorry will save your life? You will have to give your life if you even dream of apologizing for what you did. Imagine what would have happened if you did this to the prince!”

“…Mother…” Rosa knew that the fate of the maid was death, but she couldn’t allow someone to die because of the system. It wasn’t fair, but she was too afraid to say anything with the queen yelling like this.

“Your majesty, please allow this maid to come back with us. I assure you that we shall properly punish her,” Relena said to her, looking at the maid, with disgust in her eyes. Rosa may forgive her, but that was only because she was a sweet child, and they had been protecting her for too long.

“If you insist,” the king said, looking tired after everything that happened. “We shall discuss more when the time is right. Guards, tie up this maid and toss her into a wagon heading towards the Dawn manor.

“Yes, your highness,” two soldiers said, making their way into the room and quickly taking the crying maid away.

“There, with that, is everyone satisfied?” the king said, annoyed with all the constant bickering and yelling. “…Good, now let’s finally get back to business. Rosa shall be introduced as Julian’s fiancé today, in front of the rest of high society.”

“Your majesty, in Rosa’s current state, there is no way that she can go out like this,” Relena said, using her magic to dry Rosa off, but her dress and hair were ruined. She would look like a complete mess. If she went out there looking like this, she would be made a laughing stock.

“If that’s the case, then so be it,” the queen said, looking smug. “She’s wearing a mask, to begin with, so what does it matter if she looks a bit disheveled?”

“Mother is right,” Julian said, recovering from his shock. “You have to go out there with me. If you would take off your mask, no one would dare to insult you.”

“Julian, for the last time, her mask will stay on,” the king said, annoyed with his son’s obsession with that mask. “The queen is right. Rosa must go out to present herself today as the crown prince’s fiancé. There will be no debating this matter. Take a few minutes to dry off and get her ready. We shall head out first.” The king rose to his feet, walking out of the room, with the prince and the queen following after him.

“Hmm, well that could have gone better,” Rosa’s father said, concerned that a serious conversation was turned into that mess because both the queen and the prince were too stubborn.

“How dare that ask her to go out there looking like this. Her dress is completely stained. Robert, hand me the comb in my purse,” Relena said, speaking informally to her husband, seeing that they were alone.

“Mother, I want to go home,” Rosa said, no longer wanting to be here. “I feel sick. My stomach feels woozy.” Ever since that maid spilled that tea on her, she felt strange.

“It’s okay, sweetie, we’ll be leaving soon,” Relena said, annoyed that her daughter was in such a state. It was lucky that they had already begun to take precautions. However, the situation was not ideal.

“It should have been just the king here, the queen, and the prince, only complicated things more,” Rosa’s father said. “Despite being an annoying bastard, he has at least common sense. To think that the queen would dare try something like that right in front of me of all people.”

“It will be fine once we get back,” Relena said, finishing up Rosa’s hair. It wasn’t perfect, but it would have to do.

“M-mother, I want to go home,” Rosa said again, feeling worse than before. She felt like she was going to throw up.

“It’s okay, sweetie, soon, very soon,” Relena said, taking the clear vial filled with yellow liquid inside of it. “Drink this. It will help~.”

“Okay.” Rosa didn’t know what it was, but since her mother was offering it, she couldn’t refuse. To her surprise, upon taking it, she started to feel better, but not by much. At least the woozy feeling in her stomach went away.

“There, isn’t that better? Now come along. If you stay strong through this, I’ll let you sleep in the carriage on the way back,” Relena was happy that the vial worked, now, all that was left was to deal with the stupid announcement from the king.

“Y-yes mother,” Rosa said, holding her mother’s hand as they left the room and made their way to the main hall. She hoped that this would end soon.

“Thank you all for attending, her on a most momentous day. Today my son, the prince, has reached his tenth birthday,” the king said, making his speech to the nobles attending the party. “As of today, my son shall take his first steps to officially becoming the crown prince by taking a partner, and who better than Lady Rosa Dawn.”

Rosa’s mother had to let her go, as Rosa was made to stand next to Julian. She hated that the moment she stood next to him, all eyes turned toward her. She could hear their whispering, wondering about the mask and the state of her dress. Many of them didn’t like her, and they were afraid to show the disgust across their faces. If it wasn’t for the mask, there was no way that she could ever withstand the pressure.

“From this day forward, Lady Rosa Dawn shall take the title of crown princess and will serve the crown prince as his trusted partner. May they both grow into proper adults worthy of ruling this kingdom.”

The room was filled with forced applause, and it wasn’t long before the nobles began to surround them, though Relena made sure to swoop in and take Rosa before things got too out of hand. “I am terribly sorry, but Rosa isn’t feeling well, so we shall take our leave.”

“What? You can’t go. You have to… to… stay?” Julian started to feel nervous when he felt the killing intent coming from Relena. She would not tolerate any more of their nonsense today. “You may go…”

“Thank you so much for your consideration~,” Relena said, taking Rosa and walking towards the exit.

“Ugh, how could someone like her become the crown princess?”

“She dares to show up her looking like that? Does she have no shame?”

“What’s with that mask? Is she trying to hide a hideous scar?”

“How dare she leave before the crown prince. She doesn’t deserve to be with him. “

“Don’t listen to them, and hold your head up high,” Relena said to her daughter. “If you do that, then their words can’t hurt you. Regardless of being the crown princess, your status is higher than theirs. They can’t harm you.”

“Y-yes mother,” Rosa said, her eyes starting to feel heavy as they entered the carriage.

“You did good,” her father said, entering after them. He was proud that his daughter was strong enough to handle this pressure. It would only get worse for her, but he knew that if it were her, she would be able to survive.

[You have been poisoned. The system apologizes for the late response.]

As Relena removed her mask, the Villainess system appeared before Rosa again. Poisoned? How could she be poisoned? She never drank or ate anything there. How could she be poisoned?

[Villainess System is updating. Now revealing hidden skill: Low Poison Immunity.]

[Would you like to use Poison Mastery to increase Low Poison Immunity to Medium Poison Immunity? This will cost 10 Villainess Pointes.]

[Yes/No]

Rosa didn’t understand exactly what was happening, but she knew being poisoned wasn’t good. She wasted no time clicking yes.

[User has chosen to increase Low Poison Immunity to Medium Poison Immunity. The User shall be put to sleep as the system completes the update. Pleasant dreams, you vile villainess.]
