Hands 2

I forget what a challenge and interest hands are. It takes me back to a class I had in high school for creative writing. We had an assignment to describe hands. There is so much character to hands. Their roughness and shape and skin to the tension in them. It's hard to capture from memory or thought the details and proportions, not that many people's hand proportions will be like another.

I learned to hold my hands for modeling from ballet when I was a kid. My teacher taught us to just drop our hands casually to our sides and that is the best form. I use that often, but it create this soft and posed look sometimes. In acting classes in middle school, I was taught not to "act" or "pretend" but to do. So while sometimes I put ethereal grace into my hand shapes, other times I think about the character and action. How do I hold my hands when I feel a certain way or when I am doing something? Sometimes this isn't the most graceful appearance or ideal, but it is real, and that's what people resonate with. In modeling I often try to blend the idea of what's real with what will look nice in a photo or art piece.
