Crude Khyber Pass Webley Revolver Copy (ad-free)

The town of Dara Adam Khel has became a locus of firearms manufacture in response to the British occupation of Pakistan and Afghanistan in the 19th century, and it has remained dedicated to that industry to the present day. While much of the firearms manufacturing there is done to a much higher standard than most people would expect, some shops are also quite happy to make cheap, poor-quality guns. It is those cheap examples that have become associated with the region for many people, and today we are looking at one such revolver.

This is a Khyber Pass copy of a Webley MkIV revolver in .32 caliber. It is in quite poor condition, with misspelled markings and several broken internal parts. It is a perfect representation of the stereotypical Khyber gun…

I guess makes sense. They say about folding knifes that’s it’s essentially a broken knife you have to fix, maybe the same principle applies here

According to Othias at C&rsenal, top-breaks are inherently less robust than solid frame revolvers.

The Indian Webley is an upgrade from the earlier IOF Revolver, a slight variation of the Webley Mk IV https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Ordnance_Factories_.32_Revolver

A bit further east there is a licensed .32 S&W Long Webley Mk IV copy being offered for domestic sales in India. https://webleyscott.in/

I find top break revolvers in general to be super cool (not this one lol), Webleys and such. Especially ones that autoeject the brass on opening. Is there a reason that design has been abandoned essentially, I feel like it would be well received by the modern crowd just on cool factor alone? Are there downsides I’m not aware of?

I think these small workshop gun videos are fascinating. It's always interesting to see the things they care about, like proof marks, and the things they don't care about, like sights or cylinder timing.

WHY they always have a "rear sight" like that. they making the effort of fake proofmarks but don't care about a notch for a sight.

but for what caliber?

Guido Schriewer

well... the rifling looks okay πŸ‘€

I want one! A good buddy pastors a church in the Philippines. I wonder if there is a legal way to get one of those shipped to the US? Probably not worth the hassle. BTW, I think one of the Khyber Pass websmiths put in the link to "parts. It" at the end of the post. Peace be on your household.

Is there the next book in the making?
