Armatix iP1 Smart Gun at the BackUp Gun Match (ad-free)

Yesterday we looked at the history and the functioning of the Armatix iP1 "smart gun", and today I'm taking it out to a BackUp Gun Match. How will it perform? Will it cycle reliably? Will I time out before I can actually get it authorized to fire? Let's find out!

Time to start shooting left handed.

Alan B.

What are the rules / distances for these bug matches? I think I would enjoy practicing something similar at home instead of just shooting at cans and targets

The barbecube

I just realized that I ware a watch on my left hand but shoot with my right. May be not the best idea for a gun.

Rory

So one-hand shooting is a maybe thing; not good.

Martin Morehouse

While neat that would be the most frustrating firearm to shoot ever lol. To be honest short of using it as a talking piece I'd probably end up chucking it at the target at some point when it doesn't authenticate. And could you imagine it as a carry gun? Good lord that thing would be more of a danger to its owner than anything

sure does not work as planed. unauthorized hold of that thing and only one goes bang that is NOT working enough. grabling range that could be in the head of a cop realistic scenario. - wouldn't have thought you actually take it to a match.

Guido Schriewer

I'm surprised that there's not an update to this pistol that uses your phone as the security bit instead of the watch.

Chris Denner

I was thinking of something like "Unfortunately, your back-up gun is safely stored away so you have to retrieve and ready it before engaging the targets" — though I did not really expect that to be the case :)

Mr. Metzger

That's true; I didn't think about that.

Forgotten Weapons

Out of my own curiosity. The rules don't cover anything even remotely like this. :)

Forgotten Weapons

Did you choose to include the authorization in the first test yourself out of curiosity or were the rules so general that they covered the exotic electronic bits of the iP1?

Mr. Metzger

Just as well Ian doesn't REALLY care about his results in these BUG matches (as long as he can have fun shooting his "weird and wonderful" Forgotten Weapons) as I'm sure that anyone else would have authenticated the pistol BEFORE the first stage and not "on the clock" :D

Julian Corbett

on the security setting would ejecting the magazine automatically cause it to need to re authenticate since the magazine out mode might force it out.. if so the grip safety trick would work only for 1 magazine
