Brianna

Thank you for calling out the New York crowd bc every time I watch this I’m like they’re celebrating the Cup win like it’s a regular season Tuesday night win against the 2026 Vancouver Canucks 😭

This makes it sound like Jacob Tierney was saying that Shane and Ilya don’t deserve sunshine, that they are in the moonlight when really he said that he chose Moonlight Sonata because Shane can’t understand what Ilya is saying but, to him, it’s the most beautiful sound he’s ever heard, and to Jacob, Moonlight Sonata is the most beautiful thing he can think of to listen too.

I dont know if this was already mentioned, but Connor Storrie is a very sweet easy going guy from Texas. He not only learned Russian in 2 weeks but the voice, mannerisms and even the broken English. Hudson Williams conveys more emotion with just a look. His soul is in his eyes. Such a beautifully elegant actor. Also correct me if I am wrong, but there are no openly gay hockey players past or present. Most sports even today, you come out and your career is over. Hope you love The Cottage 🩷

So a kool thing they've done with the music in this episode is that if you remember in a past episode Kip's friend tells Scott "he deserves to be in the sunlight, you both do." Or something like that and in this episode Shane and Ilya have "Moonlight Sonata" playing over their big scene on the phone together but for Scott and Kip's big scene at the end the song says something like "I need sunshine."

Totally agree w you on Russian monologue phone call, it’s a disservice to shane. Blake and gents were not bad at all, at least they explained that they knew he was not sleeping. Other reactors don’t and the Google Translate they bring up is also annoying. I believe Skip would have an off-and-on relationship with Scott , meaning not frequently. Go back to beginning of ep 5, the Scott mvp speech. One sees Kip at the bar - happy yes - but almost hiding at the end of the bar, the bar tap and Elena. And as it is my understanding that Kip in the book is at the awards ceremony, I believe this end-of-bar set up is a choice Jacob made symbolizing the hesitancy Kip has in diving full force into the relationship. Again, they definitely meet, but infrequently. Plus, Kip has school and work during this time. Thoughts? Re: the hockey hit, I’m no expert in hockey as I am in other us based sports but if it would happen to a star player in say baseball, the player has leverage. I don’t think it would be that easy to trade Shane is my point but there may be a hockey ‘no matter what’ standard that I’m unaware of. Blake and the gents may know more….. and to the cottage we go!!!

i think this is my favorite episode. Ep. 6 is a close second, but this one just has so much. The women in this show are just so great and understanding. Just about everyone who reacts makes virtually the same comment about the phone call and Russian monologue, which I believe does a disservice to Shane. One thing, if he had learned Russian secretly, which is one thing commented, he would have already shown off to Ilya about that. And he would never betray Ilya's trust by pretending to understand his need to vent, and then secretly translating it. Also, I understood before reading the book that Kip and Scott would have been seeing each other since their argument, the book timeline is much tighter, and Jacob has admitted to messing up the timeline. But I never believed that Kip would just show up to the game three years after dating Scott, sitting in the same seats and with Scott knowing exactly where he was, and then Scott suddenly declaring his love in public after three years of separation... that made no sense, so I figured they had been together the whole time. I will admi this book is my least favorite because of the lack of communication that leads to their short separation. Word to the wise, if you're feeling some kinda way, and you haven't told the person involved, don't expect them to know there is a problem and get mad at them for it. Also, I was wondering what Blake thought of that hockey hit with Shane. I heard in a hockey podcast about the ep. that if a player was seen to not be paying attention in the neutral zone with control of the puck, the team would trade them ASAP, no matter who they were or how good they were. That it would make them a detriment to the team to have someone lose focus like that on the ice. For the show it works as a device to get Scott to the playoffs, and to show how concerned Ilya is, but even I, a non hockey fan, (I only watch it when I have to for work), thought that was a bad thing before I even heard what the hockey guys had to say. Anyway, now we're off to the Cottage!

Scott and Kip's book is called Game Changer, love this whole series so far, thank you for reacting!

Blake recommended new hockey fans watch a playoff game, might I recommend the Montreal Canadiens, the Habs. They are a young exciting team but also, as a complete coincidence, their captain happens to be a Japanese Canadian, Nick Suzuki. He obviously wasn’t captain when Rachel Reid wrote Shane, and I am not comparing the two, but it’s a fun coincidence.
