I think this is the most clever way I've seen to use a B-plot...it all wraps up brilliantly and adds a lot to the A plot.

Rewatching this reaction and so much happened I forgot Blake mentioned the Pacioretty hit from Chara. It was insane, Pacioretty broke a vertebrae in his neck and suffered a concussion. I don’t think Chara was suspended but the Montreal police investigated whether to file assault charges; ultimately they didn’t but the hit was bad enough that the league had to change the layout of arenas to remove the turnbuckle and prevent similar injuries in the future.

As far as I know, the combined names of both couples are Hollanov and Skip.

In the book Scott & Kip only broke up for couple of wks. Because Scott went to Kips parents house to find him & his mom was making dinner & his dad opened the door. And he let them know he was kips boyfriend etc. Scott also told a few teammates before the cup he was gay. So they worked it out. FYI in the show they dont have kips mom or sister etc. & scott never went to the bar and stood outside they changed it for the show

I remember that, in the episode 3 full length reaction, Matthew said about Scott Hunter, "Bring Kip down to the ice." Great job, Matthew.

Fun fact, Scott and Kip’s story is the first in the book series, and their book is aptly called Game Changers, because they change the game for people like Shane and Ilya! Corey’s comment about changing the game made me think of this piece of lore :)

I’m not entirely sure his brother actually knows Ilya’s bisexual. I was watching a reaction with a Russian reactor and apparently the f slur is a common insult in Russia and doesn’t always signify that the person isn’t straight. It may also be that Alexei assumes, but doesn’t know for sure, it doesn’t seem like something Ilya would’ve told him, or his father, about.

Crystal Pritchard

My heart always breaks for Ilya again for the tuna melt scene when he talks about the dynamic at home and how he always makes sure everyone has the food they like or the clothes they like, but it’s never enough. He tried so hard that day, bought ginger ale for Shane, went grocery shopping and meal prepped, put on hockey to put Shane at ease, and then Shane panicked and left.

Crystal Pritchard

In Fairness to Ilya's asshole brother. He feels entitled because he has kept his brother's sexuality, and not turned him in. He absolutely could have got him arrested (in fact its his duty to), and detained in Russia where he could never get back to the US. He's a massive prick. But culturally what Ilya is not accepted at all in Russia.

Mark Wood

Blake being a hockey fan gives me hope that he’ll be the first reactor to understand the differences between Scott and Kip and Ilya and Shane. I’m so happy for Scott this episode but he’s dating a barista, not his rival on another team.

It's really great that we only have to wait until spring 2027 for season 2, they already start filming again this summer. And oh boy better buckle up for that, it will be quite a ride knowing what's coming from the book........Season 2 has the potential to outperform season 1, so let's hope they can recreate the magic.
