Literally all the other non-vampire characters are wearing coats and scarves/hats but it must be a conspiracy that Elena is wearing one! This took place during the Bing mass marketing campaign era when they flooded all the network shows with Bing imagery, in addition to the endless commercials. CW was particularly bad but you saw it on at least Fox and ABC, too, iirc. TV show product placement in general was kind of blowing up for these few years across network TV and they were seriously clumsy. The "integration" aspect of product integration wasn't really there yet. I just kind of laugh at it with good humor because CW was working with a pretty low budget but chose to run shows that required CGI/special effects and location shooting. But maybe I'm being too generous. Long story short, the Bing lore goes deep.
