Lumino and the Golden Palace (sketches)

It’s an incredibly hectic week but I still managed to make some sketches in between deadlines ;)

It's not what I meant comparing your preference to mine. While lumino is the most obvious example, all of 6 deities are subject of my dissilusion. Arnyek is manipulative and secluded, thimoth is a trickster, plumo is self oriented, season is introverted and murruel is a hippie. Ofcourse that's an overgeneralisation I am making, there is definitely more depth to them, but not as much. Even the parawells you draw are essentially mirrors of real life human mentalities - lumino elitism, and for plumo - this is very human way of perceiving handiwork. I dont want any of that. The whole point of deities is that are not really graspable for humans. Their morality should not be like human one, but even should comparable to human one. Concepts of emotions, rivalry and goal needs to reevaluated or rejected when writing deities. I am big fan of orange blue morality - because when worldbuilding you need to develop concepts from scratch - based on environment morality, personality, philosophies - cannot be like our real world. And I dont suggest complete absurdity either - but with supernatural beings, not what gets seen introduces them, but what remains unseen. Keeping little info about them and intentionally having conflicting character narrations, clues but nothing concrete.

In contrast to Antiplayer (no hate, of course, they’re allowed to have their own opinion) I find that I like the depiction of the gods better recently. While there are gods that I think are more “abstract” (Plumo, Season, Murruel, given their manners and appearances), I’ve come to really like how Lumino is portrayed as slightly more human-like. It adds to the irony of his character, in my opinion - he seems to believe mortals are weak and their ambitions are strange and insignificant, while he also tends to act irrationally in the same way. He claims that mortals are foolish and impulsive, but he does the same thing, and in his toyhouse profile, I think it was mentioned before that he hated how much he was acting like mortals. (Also, he may have acted like this before humans were made as well - since I’m pretty sure he played a hand in their creation, I wouldn’t be surprised if they shared some traits of him as a result). We haven’t gotten nearly as much information regarding the other gods as Arnyek and Lumino - however I’ve really liked Plumo recently, and I think the excerpt from Nox solidified that. He sees himself as a father, a creator, but like many artists, destroys his work if it isn’t up to his standards. Anyways, I’m ranting here, but I just wanted to say that I actually really like the directions the gods have been going in terms of portrayal. Keep up the good work :)

I'll say something honest, your work piqued my interestest for mythic aesthetics, and visually - they are incrdible, I can see strong improvements over time, especially in use of colours. But character profile wise, I have found it a bit dull and predictable. None of characters are essentially gods, they're just human beings with magical powers. While I generally dislike polytheism in stories as it's probably one of most overused tropes - even most polytheism irl was far from anthropmorphic - anyone envoking myths with human like behaviours of deities misses the context - in ancient times poetry was seen as form of devotion, which means myths were never meant to be read literally. Before greek syncretism, roman religion was cebtered around numens, which were what we now call phenomena - ares wasnt god of war, he was the event of war. venus wasnt goddes of love, she was love. The language was anthropomotphic so these entities were later represented with human like idols etc. The point I am making is your stories misses alot of potential making deities that really are just human beings with supreme power - why should they behave this way? Why should they have attachment, goals, desires identical to human ones? Sorry if it's harsh, but I really dont like direction the character development went.
