I originally had no plans to put this on patreon, as it was intended more as just a one-off twitter shitpost, but it appeared to get quite popular, so I thought I may as well archive it here for posterity.
I've never actually played much of Guilty Gear or Tekken, though in my general moderate interest towards fighting games as a totality, I have watched a fair bit of both. Guilty Gear specifically has some of my favorite character design in all of video games; it's utterly, gloriously, style over substance, in a truly demented way. Whoever came up with the idea for Bedman should be gifted a Nobel prize.
Tekken, on the other hand, goes all around the world to being kind of humorous and novel with how utterly blase their characters are. Sure, you get the occasional tride-and-true fighting game cool guy in Kazuya or the quaint weirdness of King, but the cast is completely padded with characters named Paul, Bryan, or some other non-american name equivalent, stancing up all cool-like in totally regular outfits. They're just... regular ass people, albeit occasionally dressed up a little more stylish, totally flaunting a disregard for coherent fighting game character design. Who is this guy? How do we know that they're a powerful martial artist? What does their appearance tell us about their personality and fighting style? Just... fuck it, I guess. It's only a game, after all.
