Billionaire Mindset
Added 2020-02-18 23:12:31 +0000 UTCI had actually thought of this original little bait-and-switch joke before I ever thought to make it a political allegory. There was another version of this comic where the politician turns to the worker and says "That could be you one day, if you just work really hard" and then reveals in the last panel that he was, of course, referring to the person on her knees.
I went with this version, though, because I think the metaphor for the fellatio metaphor better applies to the neoliberal political class, utterly subservient and ideologically devoted to their billionaire masters as their betters, so much so that they will debase themselves publicly in front of the whole world for a seat next to the big boys table (no insult to sex workers, of course) whereas the average american worker probably has enough shame and decency not to debase themselves in such a way, even if they are thoroughly exploited by the billionaire class, and often buy into the lie of "working your way up". Both comics could have worked, I think, but this version is a little more biting and has a message that is a little less common, I would say.
