The Poster's Fortune Teller

I always worry if comics like this, so heavily laden with topical internet concepts and lingo, will drag me down as creator. People already classify my comics as 'memes' because the art is simplistic and they are posted online to be shared, and I suppose posts like these won't help me get taken more seriously as a comedian or cartoonist. But on the other hand, what am I to do, NOT make jokes about the very things in front of me? Absurd.

Whenever I make a comic like this that is a large list of jokes with no inherent order to them, there is always an art to how they ought to be ordered; its almost like composing music. Here are some of the general rules of thumb I try to follow:

Two jokes shouldn't be next to one another if they are too similar, unless one subverts the premise of the previous one. Lengthier jokes should be mixed amongst shorter ones so the reader doesn't get a fatigued. The initial joke must be funny enough to capture the attention, but not too funny that the following jokes are a disappointment, and musn't be too absurd: they should set the basic joke format, so that the following jokes can improve upon it, subvert it, and make it more absurd. And of course, the last joke should always be a punchy surprise, because everything before it acts as a setup.

It was executed beautifully and I laughed, like really let it out. Also a feat considering I'm bummed that I have to put my cat down tomorrow.

had to use all my brain power to figure out that last one
