Julie Carole is a model I worked with a couple of times early after I started shooting nudes.
This is from our second shoot, where I experimented with more fashion lighting (Images 2-4).
The first image was my second attempt to shoot stripes with a flash (a fringe curtain with a light meant to cast a hard shadow).
You need a focusable spotlight for the (like yesterday's post).
The good thing about the spotlight is it has a lens, so the light comes from a point.
The problem with the spotlight is that it consumes a lot of light, so you can’t use much power in the flash.
The second problem is the spotlight is just that, a spot.
It’s not a broad light angle, so to fill out the frame you need, you must move the spot almost 10m/33’ away, further reducing the light output.
So you need to crank up the ISO somewhat for a whole body shot even to get an ƒ 4.
The second image was lit with large Chimera softbox lighting down in front of the model and the camera - almost parallel to the floor.
This gives an even-ish light that, combined with the white floor below, gives the model a nice glow, mainly from the front.
It’s not uncommon in fashion, but it looks fake to me, and I don’t use that light often, it's "too commercial".
The last two images are the same light placed to the side of the model, something I appreciate more, as it enhances the body more pleasingly (to me at least).
