Backlight
These two images from the archives, with Carocalossi and Rosa Brighid respectively, share one property:
It’s almost identical light on both.
Try to rotate the second picture counterclockwise mentally, and you'll see.
In the first, the light is a bit further away from the model, so it is not in the picture and, therefore, also a bit harder.
In addition, I’ve done what I can to eliminate stray light in the shadows by setting up flags and styrofoam for negative fill to keep shadows dark.
I’ve also purposely underexposed a bit to get a darker tonality.
On the second, I’ve done the opposite:
I placed a large white styrofoam right behind her booty, slightly closer to the camera, to get the light to wrap around and illuminate the wall next to her, softening the shadows further.
Here, I’ve purposely maintained a lighter overall exposure to get a lighter, more open feel.
It's a very basic but also very versatile way of using light.
ƒ4.5 1/80 and ƒ5 1/125 respectively.
