Cobra Arch

I'm unsure if this stunning formation is officially known as Cobra Arch, but the moniker fits.
In this shot, my friend Zulema strikes a pose just beyond the shadow cast by the arch, adding an intriguing element to the scene.

This photograph was taken in the Valley of Fire, an area renowned for its vibrant landscapes and as one of the most photogenic parks in the U.S.
The rock formations here don't possess hues of blue or violet; however, when shaded and contrasted against a deep blue sky, they magically take on these colors.

Photographing such vividly colored rocks presents an interesting technical challenge. How should one approach color correction in this situation? Do you adjust the colors to reflect how the stones look under direct sunlight, or should they be tweaked based on personal perception and memory?

And what about scenarios where a nearby reddish rock casts its hue onto a model, tinting their skin red? Should the skin tone be corrected to appear natural, as it would in a neutral light, or should it embrace the environmental influence?

My approach blends these considerations, aiming to produce an aesthetically pleasing image that reflects my memory and impression of the place.
As an artist rather than a documentary photographer, I aim to craft compelling images that captivate the viewer, regardless of strict adherence to reality.

But it is always a puzzle when there is no objective "right.".
