Hell's Paradise S2 Episode 1

Comments

So between Wesley and Rockycitygirl making brilliant counter arguments that I was going to, or that I didn't even think of, I have nothing left to add 😂 ya'll solidified this theory for me. I am banking on wifey being a representation of his Yin Tao, and I think Rocky's right that it was done as an experiment to try and re-create the perfect Tao balance that he saw on the island (the chief. Cuz I believe they said that he's been to the island before?) I think she has a scar because it's something to humanize her, and is also symbolic of strength and weakness. I also think that the chief figured she'd work as a hostage, and didn't expect for Gabi to start betraying their values over her. 🤔 It kinda makes more sense than the chief actually having a daughter like that and giving her to Gabi, if you think about it.. the chief doesn't seem like someone who would have a family (Traditionally, certain warlords and clan leaders wouldn't actually take on wives. Instead, they'd adopt another warrior or a warrior's daughter, who'd then marry someone else in the clan to strengthen bonds and keep the lineage going. A lot of marriages were also done in name only, with the married couple barely seeing each other, if at all) If he really had a daughter, how would she turn out so kind and loving? Particularly in a culture where you are taught to be pragmatic and manipulative, like the other kunoichi we see. Or, another thought that hit me just now! What if she's real, but she's not really as she appears. Like Gabi has such a clear idea of her because he actually has seen her and interacted with her, but then was made to believe she is a kind and innocent person that he married, but in actuality, they've only met briefly and it was to construct the fake version, but the real version is more like how you'd expect her to be as the chief's daughter. Manipulative, cynical, jaded, cruel, ect. Or perhaps the interactions were really her, but it was her playing a role and Gabi actually isn't home enough to see she's a different person entirely.. 😂 ok now my brain is just going off on tangents. I still think the first theory is the best one. I just really don't believe this show would actually have a normal, happy marriage situation for Gabi. Aside from the fact that it feels like we haven't gotten the real "twist" to the show yet, this isn't the kind of show to have such a wholesome motivation point. Plus, when have we ever seen a show with a platonic male and female lead that stays platonic?

Ooh! That's such a good point! I was thinking Gabi manifested his wife as his yin, but it makes sense that maybe the chief was trying to recreate the techniques he saw himself on the island through Gabi by giving him something to care about. I think this is the best theory.

When you mentioned how the brothers work as yin and yang, I thought about how maybe the village chief was planting false memories into Gabimaru about having a wife as an experiment to teach him Tao. Since Gabimaru seems to always choose the “strong” path, his wife could be the opposite and represent his “weak” side. This episode also pointed a lot toward the change in his fighting style after he forgot about her and how he is overall weaker than before. We saw that the chief is supposedly immortal, so it would make sense that he knows about the concept of Tao and would try to upgrade his village’s strength by using it (unless Yuzuriha was right and he just faked his immortality, lol). Also, maybe it’s just me but it seems like the animation quality got a nice upgrade compared to the previous season.
