2022-09-09 06:29:47 +0000 UTCThe Holy Church wasnt aginst magic entirely (as shown by them overseeing the grail wars) but they were against papa Emiya's research as it was a very risky and a moral grey area that would lead to destruction when human testing started. Humans cant become truly imortal and that's why the church would have to step in at that point.

2022-08-04 23:53:06 +0000 UTCI think if I remember correctly them turning into zombies is actually turning into "The Dead" as in what Dead Apostles from Tsukihime are able to make. Shurley actually ended up becoming a Dead Apostle aka. a vampire because she tried to make herself immortal. Thats how some of the Dead Apostles in Tsuki became vampires. Not sure if its the same but the concept of the Dead spreading that easily via being bit by a vampire is why the church gets called to exterminate before everyone is corrupted.

His backstory sows the seeds for his extreme utilitarian ideals and the next episode will show you why he is the way he is. As for his fathers research - his goal was to reach the Root (same as Tokiomi's goal), which is difficult to achieve within the limited lifespan of a human. So he experimented with time magic (kiritsugu also has time alter magic remember) by stopping the flow of time for flowers. Essentially, he was trying to replicate this magic to work on human's but alas, Shirley tested it on herself and became a zombie-like creature. Basically immortal but without human consciousness.
