Not sure if you were told, but the animals 1st season was extremely rushed and left out and/or changed stuff to promote people to go out and buy the manga and/or LN. And while not AS bad as S1, S2 and 3 left a bunch out too. Like the story about the demon Rimuru summoned to inhabit the Magisteel Golem he made for Ramiris is actually really important for the rest of the story, buuuuuut it was left out of the anime and only a short 3 or 4 minute animation was made later for that moment, but that too was only released in Japan with the Japanese exclusive Collectiors Edition of the manga.

Wasn't a sub here when you started, else I would have said to do this before starting S2. Slime Diaries is a canon spin-off manga, and it's anime covers the time frame set after the defeat of the Orc Lord and beofe the fight with Cyribdis. It's a great watch for more character context and understanding. Also, I'd recommend going back to the S1 OVAs, at least the last 3. They provide a bunch of info the rest of the anime skips. Like who Tiss is and other characters we see going forward.
