Clay Golem progress
Added 2025-06-16 04:09:40 +0000 UTCI’m back with the little bit of artwork I squeezed in during my week off. I put down some base colors, then worked over them in gouache (my procreate brush of choice), then shaded it with more gouache. Counting the sketch layer, that’s FIVE WHOLE LAYERS! That’s a lot for me. Anything more than three seems extravagant, but this is a commission after all. I’ll probably space these out a little more so I have room for a slight background.

Layers in the drawing program sense means you can draw on one without affecting the others. The inked lines are on a separate layer from the base colors, which are in turn separate from the color and shading layers. The sketch layer is currently turned off, when I did the inks I made a new layer so I wouldn’t be drawing directly on the sketch and having to erase it like I did with traditional art.

2025-06-16 11:37:09 +0000 UTC2nd thing, forgive my ignorance, I'm a musician not a visual artist, but what do you mean by layers. I understand they are part of the digital drawing process from your posts, but I still don't quite grasp what they are.
