I was cursing both my life decisions and Mynasha. “I know where Atlantium is!” I forced out, trying to find leverage. Khrusos studied me, some curiosity in his eyes. I could rush him and try and take his brain, but I hesitated. If it didn’t work, I would be flattened.
“So do I, human. I lived there for centuries,” he said with a mischievous sneer.
Shit, what else can I offer? “You look good for being six thousand years old,” I quipped, and I imagined being consumed by the massive head in front of me, my bones ground by his teeth.
Khrusos smiled. “Ha!” He laughed from his gut, the air reverberating from his voice. “I do, don’t I? It is closer to eight thousand, but I tend to lose track of time. Now let’s see what you are hiding.” Khrusos’s eyes glowed with aether as his smile remained. I felt like my aether core was being torn apart. I think I screamed, but I couldn’t be sure. My legs gave out and I face-planted into the floor, cracking my jaw and chipping multiple teeth. I now knew what it felt like to be manhandled by someone with magic far beyond me.
A young griffin’s wail of pain sounded. I forced my head to turn, only to see a large pile of goods with Baldo sitting on top. I had certainly collected a lot of shit over the last two years. One of the female giants complimented me. “This human is impressively large.” Had I not been in excruciating pain, I might have quipped some innuendos in response to try to gain some goodwill.
Baldo squawked in protest as Khrusos walked toward him and scooped him up. “I haven’t tasted griffin in ages,” the storm giant’s voice boomed.
Shit, I was helpless. “Please leave the griffin alone!” I yelled. “He is a companion and friend.” The agony passed and left vertigo in its place as I felt the weight lift. I fought back bile as I got to my knees. Baldo was trapped in the cage that was Khrusos’s hand, only his head protruding and clearly in distress. Mynasha was still flattened on the floor, eyes transfixed by the pile of goods before her. She was astonished, her lips parted in awe. I didn’t need to turn to know that Rhuuk and Jhuarkasha were just as speechless behind me.
Khrusos considered the griffin. I thought he was going to bite off Baldo’s head, but instead he dropped the young griffin unceremoniously. It was a good sign that he didn’t eat him, but Baldo slammed hard into the marble floor, succumbing to the oppressive force on all of us. His wings were splayed and he was twitching as he tried to move.
I searched for my dimensional space. It was still there and didn’t seem shattered. My aether core was full, but it felt like I had been kicked in the balls. I made my decision. Baldo disappeared, draining my aether. Khrusos looked at me, some curiosity on his face. Was he going to rip open my dimensional pocket again? Our eyes met, and he seemed to see me differently this time. He gave me the slightest of nods. Was that respect?
The two giantesses left their seats and walked toward the treasure hoard. As they stepped, they slowly shrank in size to that of a human. Khrusos tittered at his companions but followed suit, also deflating to appear no bigger than I. This caused the orcs to gasp in shock, which only made the Titans amused. One of the females commented, “Yes, we have walked among you since you overthrew us.” Khrusos gave the female an annoyed look that silenced her. Of course their reduced size made it easier for them to go through my things.
I was helpless as they sifted through my mess. One of the females took one of the ginseng roots, sniffed it, and nibbled on it. Soon, the entire stock of two-thousand-year-old ginseng was being handed out and munched on like a snack. I had planned some high-tier alchemy for those roots. The candied nuts were the next victims of the giants as they ignored the artifacts and focused on the culinary treats.
Potion vials were cracked and leaking onto the floor. When the liquids mixed, they produced a slight smoke. My alchemy glassware was mostly shattered. Pieces of armor were tossed aside as they dug through the pile like children on Christmas, looking for the best presents. The giants still appeared to have retained their strength, and they cared nothing for being gentle as they searched. I wasn’t sure if they were searching for something specific or just being curious.
My essences were soon found in the manticore pouch. Khrusos upended the supple bag into his hand, and the other two crowded around to see what he had found. I took advantage of the distraction to return the dreamscape amulet and essence collector to my dimensional pocket. I would have salvaged more, but it was all I had the aether for at the moment. The giants didn’t appear to notice as they were focused on dividing up the essences among themselves.
The loss of the four major healing essences was painful. One of the females—Ephemeris, I think—took one of the many apples on the floor and bit into it, her weathered face lighting up in pleasure. Khrusos had picked up the black spear and was twirling it admiringly. I was waiting for another opportunity to salvage precious items.
The third giantess was sniffing the bottle of elven ambrosia. She took a long pull before speaking. “Father, has he not paid enough tribute for his due?” Father? By a human standard, she looked to be over a hundred, while Khrusos only looked to be in his forties. Ephemeris was taking the opportunity to gather up Ginger’s apples in a sack she had found among my things.
Khrusos sighed and dropped the black spear. As it clattered on the floor, he faced us. In a much more deferential tone, he addressed us. “Very well. For the nourishment and amusement you have provided, you have earned a boon. What do you seek?” I craned my neck to make eye contact with Mynasha, indicating that she should speak.
She had fought to get to her knees. “Any inconsequential artifact that is easily portable,” she said, breathing heavily from the strain. I took the opportunity to check on the others. Fioasha was face down and wheezing heavily. Warlord Rhuuk was still standing, but from the hollow look in his eyes, I guessed he had drained his aether into his tattoos, enhancing his strength to do so. His eyes met mine with a cold, calculating stare. He had seen too many of my secrets. Jhuarkasha was huddled into a ball, and I was unsure if I had observed everything that had happened.
Khrusos was growing again, releasing the magic that had compacted his body. Ephemeris had taken her apples and was also rising to her original height. The third giantess who had aided in stopping the plundering picked up the last paper cone of candied nuts. She gave me a wink before returning to her seat. An odd ally; I didn’t even know her name.
As the three storm giants seated themselves again, the weight slowly lifted off of me. Fioasha gasped the loudest in relief. I was urgently feeling out my aether recovery. How much aether did I need to reclaim the most valuable of treasures?
A metal object clattered to the floor in front of us. “An inconsequential artifact,” Khrusos barked. “A key to nothing but made of precious metals in thanks for your thoughtful offerings.” He chuckled to himself at his unwelcome humor.
The key was rectangular and made of silvery metal that reflected the light. Odd, unfamiliar runes adorned its length. Mynasha edged forward to retrieve the key and looked surprised at its weight. “You two may leave,” he said, dismissing us.
I looked at my worldly possessions: the overturned assessment table, scattered clothes, a small armory, and a few books now soaked in the liquid of various potions. An array of alchemy ingredients among the broken glass. The troll’s blood would spoil if I didn’t return it to my dimensional space.
“You can take what you will,” the giant said, amused at my longing stare. I had to tell myself not to be angry. I wore magebane and had recovered the collector and the dreasmscape amulet, my two most precious artifacts. I needed to stall for some time to recover more aether to collect more things.
“Is there a way for me to go home? Return to Earth?” I asked, stepping closer to the pile, my eyes searching for valuable artifacts.
It was not Khrusos who replied, but my odd ally among the three. “Earth? Is that what you call the origin planet of the humans and half-men?” I think the half-men she mentioned were halflings. “A strange thing to call a planet: Earth.”
I nodded, giving her my attention for the moment. “There is a way for me to go home?”
Her gray eyes brushed over me with a penetrating gaze. It was more than a stare. I felt like I was being undressed. “No. The World Gates are no more.”
“Gates? Then how was I brought here? How was Mynasha brought here?” I pointed back at my companion.
Khrusos spat. “Ignorant human. The aether engines are still active. That fool Hephaestus built the machines on the ley lines deep in the earth. He gave the engines sentience to power the gates. It allowed my people to conquer your world and many others,” Khrusos growled out threateningly.
“Until the demons,” the unnamed giantess said with a tight jaw.
Khrusos growled. “Until the demons,” he agreed reluctantly. “We destroyed all the gates to end the demon horde. We tried to destroy the aether engines, but Hephestus had changed them and they allied with you lesser species to turn on us!”
Khrusos was stewing and his anger rising from his memories. He did not appear willing to continue and I thought it was time to leave.
Ephemeris took up the narrative though. “I was not yet born.” She looked at Khrusos. “But I was told what happened. The aether engines became known as dungeons. They fought for their survival. First, they created creatures and sent them to fight my ancestors. Then, they got more devious when they realized they were not going to succeed. They trained your people to fight us. Gave them artifacts. Gave them magic. Gave them alchemy.” She indicated my pile of loot.
Khrusos angrily interceded. “It was not the pitiful smallfolk that doomed us. It was our own bickering among the clans. The infighting weakened us and made us susceptible to your tricks. You are trapped here, human; you cannot return to your planet. The dungeons can only pull people here and all knowledge of the World Gates is destroyed. Now, my patience has run out. Leave.”
It was clear the storm giant did not like his history revealed. I bowed slowly. “Thank you for your time. I am Eryk Marko.” I bowed low toward Khrusos. “Khrusos.” I bowed low toward Ephemeris. “Ephemeris.” I bowed low toward the final giantess. “I did not overhear your name. May I have it before we depart?” I wanted to know, but I was also stalling for as much time as possible to replenish my aether for one last grab.
“You have manners, human. I am Anemae, daughter of Khrusos.” She nodded at me with a contemplative smile on her dark-blue lips. I turned to the pile and began picking up items, quickly sending them to my space. There were a number of grotesque things mixed in that I had long forgotten about: a cockatrice head, organs of man and beast, a large stack of earth drake hide, and chunks of myconid flesh.
I left all the food for the Titans, lamenting the lost dungeon harvest that I thought would last a decade. The black spear vanished first, then Boris’s dungeon blade. I slowed, trying to judge what I could take with the amount of aether I had left.
I took all the artifacts in quick succession, digging them out as I went. The black jade chalice, the brooch, my blood compass, the ring of influence, the dungeon spellbook, an orcish hand axe, my sole remaining glowstone, Orc’s Torment, and finally, the tablet reader. I had waited on the tablet reader because its mass took a decent amount of aether to store. I avoided making eye contact with the giants for fear they would grow impatient.
The griffin pillow and weasel pelts were next, followed by an assortment of easily accessible clothes. Then I took what jewelry, silver, and gold I could find easily among the mess, tossing it into the chest I had liberated from the werewolf before storing it. I would have to replace my alchemy kit and supplies. Fortunately, most of my remaining pellets and healing salves were in my dimensional belt.
One of the jars of oblivion pills hadn’t shattered, so I grabbed it next. There were still many weapons and an equally large amount of equipment remaining. I stored the three bows before Mynasha grabbed my arm, whispering harshly, “We should leave now.” I didn’t look back at the seated Titans, but I sensed their amusement at my humbling was over. I bent down and tucked the two massive fire bear pelts under my arms, then started walking toward the exit with Mynasha.
There was still so much I was leaving behind. I hoped at least that the Titans would enjoy the food. When we exited the temple, it was still night, and I felt like running. We entered the woods and soon reached the edge of the caldera, where we began to climb. We had been the first to succeed. As we reached the lip of the Spire, Mynasha bared her canines. Her face was a mix of happiness and anxiety. The clouds below were illuminated with flashes of lightning as we hastened down the spiraling path.

2025-09-30 05:43:56 +0000 UTCThis entire arc has been nothing but losses for Eryk. He's being walked over by the clerics who seem to think everything is a joke and now his abilities and wealth are just casually displayed to everyone.

2025-09-29 21:54:39 +0000 UTCIf there are convergence essences, then affinities could be raided to ridiculous levels. A space affinity of 120 would be 4 times as strong as Eryks.

2025-09-01 19:23:26 +0000 UTCAm I the only one who is still wondering why he even participated in this? Like I get it the guys a friend and impatient but it's not like he did anything to help his situation for a decade. Dude should have waited a few days and then killed them. Also interesting have we seriously not had a single conversation about this girls politics? All I remember is "good for her people" and I'm pretty sure she was on the Frontline killing people a few months ago. Not saying that's wrong but to not have had a convo about it seems weird; she could easily be like "death to all races...but I'll use you for now" everyone so far has been manipulative so wouldnt be a big shocker. Also, they clearly say clerics don't lie but can mispresent. I'm not convinced any slave will be released. What reason does she have after she is supreme?

2025-08-11 03:10:49 +0000 UTCContunity error:It's mentioned here that the Essences are in the manticore pouch which the Giants take. Not mentioned that he pulls the pouch back into his Dimensional space in the end. But he has the pouch again in the next book. So need to add it here as one of the items he picks up again

2025-07-30 22:26:44 +0000 UTCI think it makes sense, he’s not focused on himself right now he’s focused on Mavith. I do feel like he’s letting himself be manipulated a bit too much though. I don’t feel like he would let himself be manipulated quite as much after just escaping and extremely manipulative government. But it’s also his first time leading his team, as well as his first time really free in this world. So i could see him taking the road that is laid out for him. Even if its being laid by someone with outside interests. Ultimately, this trip was never meant to be about Eryk growing stronger. I think its more about regrouping with the team and getting Mavith’s family back. There’s no way that it would have made sense for it to be just a leveling arc. As for him loosing his stuff: Yes, he’s lost some things but half of the stuff he’s lost is stuff 90% of the readers aren’t gonna remember he even has. As a collector of trinkets IRL, I hate losing my stuff but sometimes things happen and that’s what keeps the story so bound to “reality”. Sometimes shit happens. There are plenty of lit RPG stories out there that are just a power fantasy where nothing ever goes wrong and the OP main character gets everything he wants. There is a place for those stories, I like plenty of those stories too, but I still like this one most. Also, I know this is a very late comment because I’m rereading everything. Don’t judge me, it’s my comfort read!

2025-07-19 03:15:22 +0000 UTCConsidering Eryk just lost his essences and so mucb of his wealth for Myenesha, i hope she repays him. Those healing essences were super valuable, not to mention everything else he left.

2025-06-28 17:44:12 +0000 UTCI feel like it could easilybe justified getting Eryk here without having him be so manipulated in the beginning by Glisha. He could have just made for the warlords keep then run into Mynesha on the way, battled with the mountain giants, impressed Myenesha and Glisha, then been informed that the warlord with zorana would be in the choosing for several weeks. Then agreed to participate in order to find Zorana, as opposed to waiting around. The whole being mainpulated by Glisha to meet Myenesha in the first place seems entirely unnecessary.

Brett Ulakovic
2025-06-20 00:01:27 +0000 UTCI expected him to lose more stuff, but I guess litrpg readers riot over setbacks. When he nicked the collector and amulet, I legit thought that's all he would make it out with, and nodded to myself as a decisive authoring choice. But then he got an extra generous reprieve, and kept even the utterly random chatchkas like the unused pelts. Taking an L gracefully is part of being a man. So it goes, with litrpg mobs. If Eryk lost a large copper, Gaston would be singing a Disney song about the litrpg mob storming the castle to kill the beast, and the author besides. (He'll come after your gains in the night!). This chapter also, sort of, cleared up this world as the origin/timeline, if we just pretend immigrants to Earth import in Greek culture ex nihilo and edit/erase a portion of human history, which a parallel fantasy history has perhaps license to do. A little loose that earth culture knows nothing, even apocryphally, of the immigration, or accurate magic, or other worlds and races, and has omissions like orcs and pixies not being Greek mythological races, etc, but OTOH we could presume that those are extra Greek myths and races in this alternate fantasy timeline's earth lore. Works well enough for litrpg story needs, casually.

2025-06-13 04:10:05 +0000 UTCGetting robbed by the giants just feels like a lazy DM clearing out inventory clutter. Not enough information was given about what was left behind. With everything that was sacrificed from his space there isn’t really a chance for the other clerics to survive the encounter with what little they had. Love the books, however everything feels very jumbled and rushed in book 5.

2025-06-01 17:08:06 +0000 UTCDid they say at some point he figured out it wasn't the mass that changes how much he can put in his pocket? Seems like he realized for non-living objects doing more at once was actually more efficient.

2025-05-17 11:41:21 +0000 UTCFirst comment on a story for me and I'm kind of late to the party. I was wondering about the fire bear pelts for ages. I wanted Zyna to get one and Zorana the other but as I said above...Maybe a little bit less information on the Titan backstory. Keep things a bit vague and let Eryk find legends and tid bits that piece it together later. And maybe Eryk scoops some stuff up at random and puts it in a bear pelt and drags it out for comedic effect/ show of intelligence. Hope that makes it into book five. Thanks
Kevin
2025-05-16 23:32:19 +0000 UTCWhat did he lose? Maybe this was edited but I didn’t seen him lose anything that mattered whatsoever

2025-04-27 06:12:16 +0000 UTCOnce again I find myself unmoved by the criticism of this chapter. We just learned the Titans were so powerful they created gates to other worlds and conquered them. That is was their autonomous creations that allowed for magic, dungeons, and artifacts to be available to the other races. This means the magic of the other races is an imitation of what the Titans have, a shadow of it. They didn’t overwhelm the titans, the titans destroyed themselves. So yes it makes sense they have abilities not yet seen such as forcing Eryk to empty his space. Think about the tablet readers, these were created by humans and set arbitrary limits based on their limited knowledge of magic. Eryk himself has over 100 in space affinity, meaning titans could conceivably have many many times that. The Titan is OP? Of course they are! That doesn’t hurt the story. I just feel like a lot of people here are whining about lost junk, he took what mattered. About lost money when he never really is in need of it. And about getting owned by a being much more powerful. What story do you folks want to read? Do you want to just see Eryk always win and never have a thing go wrong? What kind of story would that be? Feedback is important, but it only goes so far when you don’t even know what you’re asking for.

Andrew G.
2025-04-27 05:54:55 +0000 UTCStarting to get sick of Eryk being used by everyone, giving away all his treasures, not focused on improving his aether core size / control / etc. Starting to not feel realistic which is what made this story originally so enticing.

2025-04-18 15:00:27 +0000 UTCI’m in agreement with a lot of the comments. The way he was overpowered seemed way too easy. I would think him being able to resist the attempt to force his dimensional space would be a more likely outcome, which would then cause curiosity and conflict. I could then see the daughter somehow helping them out wanting to learn more about him, perhaps leaving with them and then he could learn more about them. I look forward to seeing how you resolved some of these issues as I read further.

2025-04-13 06:47:37 +0000 UTCI'm torn here on how to feel. First off, there *should* be no chance for the other two clerics to leave alive. These titans should not want much that those two can offer, and those two do not have much to offer in the first place. With how the scene has been written, it'll be a miracle for them to leave alive. While I think it would be refreshing to see a plot twist and have Mynasha win this way, I doubt it because there has to be some confrontation for Maveith's sister. I think my main concern here is compensation. I'll be royally PO'd if Eyrk doesn't demand compensation for the loss he was forced to suffer. At the very least, I want them to offer him immense compensation. That was hundreds of gold he lost out on, if not more! That's not mentioning that if one of those clerics survive (like I suspect), even if it should be almost impossible, his own survival is now at stake. There is a ton that Mynasha could do as the Supreme to compensate Eyrk. Influence, money, a home to train with the best warriors and clerics, knowledge, connections, etc etc. I know that this continent is smaller but Eyrk is here influencing an entire nation's political landscape... he's officially in the top 1% of this continent in terms of his power. I'm not sure how I feel about all this 'Kronos' and Greek stuff. It implies that these titans are at the level of Gods, and sure, they're powerful, but in no way do they come off as Gods with their power. It also implies that Zeus and the rest of the pantheon exist, but since we haven't seen clues on actual Gods and whatnot, I assume they either don't exist or they live on some important continent ruling empires. I never got the impression that these Storm Titans were anything more than powerful creatures like dragons and wyverns, so this comes off as weird to me, but I also accept that this could be me making a ton of assumptions to fill in the gaps. Maybe they lost some Divine power or whatever and fell back to Desia as mortals. I do think that Eyrk was flaunting his dimensional space a little too much like some of the other comments have mentioned, but I think I was more frustrated with how helpless he was. Maybe this was the wake-up call he needed to strive to become powerful enough to never feel that way again. I would love it, but I don't have my hopes up.

2025-03-16 00:24:34 +0000 UTCI can't move passed this. I keep coming back to it and how there are too many issues with the story. There is nothing wrong with emptying some space but the way it is done is silly. These storm giants are OP which is why he gets his space broken into, but then they steal essences? Why would they even want those as they are so powerful it would do nothing for them. Can they also not just get them if they want them? I think this should be changed to having his space being opened and looked at. Then they can "trade" where he takes what he wants in copensation. Maybe answer some questions or more than the small trinket given. This way not everything is taken out. Again, they are so OP nothing besides the food should really interest them. Especially since they are giving away items highly valued by others. As well, why would they not strike a deal to kill the other orcs since they know about him now. How do they also get out of that situation when Eryk had all of that stolen and barely makes it? That doesn't add up. I get you need them alive but it is a big flaw. Out of all the chapters and arcs these are the ones which don't add up or make sense. They seem like you just wanted to tie up loose ends quickly and it comes through sadly

2025-02-18 23:33:18 +0000 UTCLoved the chapter and the consequences for Eryk. I don't mind his space being cleared out and think when faced with beings as powerful as the giants it's reasonable. Also disagree with a lot of readers that Eryk is too generous. He has plenty and when he does give things out it's for a good cause / necessary. I hate overly selfish and callous MCs and Eryk strikes a good balance. If he lost his collector or spear I think it would be too far otherwise he can gain all of that again. We know there's more dungeons that are unexplored that he can gain more loot from.

2025-02-18 23:29:33 +0000 UTCI don't understand your complain, he is facing an 8000 years old Titan. Don't you think his space affinity is way past a thousand already. His wife said that they used to kill outerwolder and eat their essence so I think leaving with his life is already great.

2025-02-10 21:20:15 +0000 UTCWow, what a shitty way to use plot armor. How is a 101 affinity over powered within the system you have established? This whole thing feels forced and doesn’t fit organically in the story at all.

2025-02-07 05:20:14 +0000 UTCThis trial had really been more about why Eryk is qualified to lead, not the Orcs. And frankly, there are no clear concessions from Mynasha. This could all be for nothing as she has shown no real gratitude. However, the wealth of the Orcs should be available to her and she could repay Eryk substantially for his losses which would make this more believable. But honestly, this is a terrible way to pick a leader.

2025-01-28 15:40:51 +0000 UTCI know a lot of others complain about Eryk's choices sometimes, and whine about him somehow not being bloodthirsty or greedy enough (damn weirdos). But now it's my turn to complain. Author, this was a clear and overly contrived way to forcefully empty Eryk's space and take away some of his good shit. A lot of which you had probably forgotten about and kept getting reminded of by other readers. Not cool man. Pretty damn lame actually. Didn't even make Eryk mention Kronos by name, or ask about Earth properly (if he knew about Kronos/Chronos, then I'm sure he had to know that Earth is also called Terra by the Romans and something the giants would more likely know).

2024-12-14 19:24:09 +0000 UTCHe has mentioned his sisters a million times. He constantly references Earth in various ways. Its called show don't tell... I don't disagree that it could've been lathered on bit more, especially when we compare it to Maveith's story, but saying he never thinks about Earth is way off

2024-12-14 14:47:01 +0000 UTCI don't think it's a problem for MC to lose some trinkets or be humiliated by the giant, in fact it's even good for the story that this happens. My problem is the way it got to this point. In these last chapters Erick seems to be a completely different person and is acting very out of character, especially the way he kept rubbing the size of his dimensional space in the face of anyone who wanted to see.

2024-12-14 12:55:44 +0000 UTCDoes Eryk still have the spatially expanded belt? Even if he lacks the aether to pull everything back into his space, he could probably stuff a lot into his belt.
Justin Barnett
2024-12-14 10:20:35 +0000 UTCI think you do need to change the dynamic between Glasha, Mynasha and Eryk. I don’t think Eryk would let himself get sucked so far into this for so little, especially when he could just wait for the choosing to end then ambush the warlord. I think you should make glasha less manipulative and mynasha more likable. You could change her into a progressive who wants to stop slavery entirely or something like that, someone who actually has a sense of honor like humans do. Maybe make it clear simply freeing zorana is not an option. You could make it so loosing a slave causes a warlord to lose honor, so a warlord would chase an escaped slave to another country. Maybe Rhuuk could have a blood sample from all his slaves so he can track or hex them if they run. And for people who want Eryk to have more tangible gain for his trouble, Mynasha could bribe Eryk to become her first by pointing out that firsts get to enter the demon labyrinth. She could promise him all the artifacts from the delve and all essences as well. Maybe you could have that dungeon contain creatures that give Aether shaping or capacity essences. He’d definitely go to a lot of trouble for a large supply of those.
Justin Barnett
2024-12-14 10:14:02 +0000 UTCI agree with others that Eryk hasn’t shown much interest in going home, at least from what I’ve interpreted. If you want to build in an arc of him thinking about or trying to get back to earth, maybe build that up over this book. It could be that now that he’s out of the legion and not focusing on surviving day to day, he actually has time to think about and miss earth.

2024-12-14 03:10:04 +0000 UTCThe only thing is he never thinks about Earth or about being homesick as far as I can tell. He doesn’t make anyone in his dreamscape amulet from Earth he misses except a dead dog. Compare that to Maiveith and making a copy of his sister you know what I mean?
Owen Jones
2024-12-14 03:06:24 +0000 UTCOn his magic front it feels like Eryk has stalled out this book but instead he has grown in power in that he has gotten leadership of a group of capable veterans. Since Eryk is planning to go back to the Shimmering labyrinth and Caelora then presumably he would need the ghostbusters proton pack vault of souls thingy I didn’t see that mentioned so maybe throw that in there. If he’s planning to go back and he grabs the vault then he should think to himself to leave anything he could get in the Caeloran dungeon since he could get that again and concentrate on gathering his wealth and other things. I also want to echo what others have said here that the juice hasn’t been worth the squeeze in what Eryk has done for the Orks and what he’s lost versus what he’s gaining. I also don’t think he has pressed them hard enough in past chapters on getting their word that they will free Maiveith’s sister if Mynasha becomes the Supreme. He’s heard multiple times that the Ork clerics are liars and use language to lead people to one conclusion and then trick them which he has witnessed from the elders. so unless it’s a planned betrayal that will force him to steal Maiviths sister after getting Mynasha the Supreme position and then them revealing that they had only said they COULD help him get the slave free but never said they WOULD then I feel in previous chapters Especially the one where Eryk commits to helping then he should really pointedly press for an explicit commitment. Maybe I missed it but I don’t remember him getting one did he? Edit to add: I also think he should decide he wants new armor from his master blacksmith armorer who now has even more knowledge because of the elvish master blacksmith books she’s been given so maybe leave some of the armor on purpose? As an aside I’ve kind of been thinking it’d be cool to get his newly formed Fortuna’s Chosen upgrades and progression like him. So sort of matching or semi-matching armor when the get back to the Duchy. It’d be a cool area to do progression on like he’s building up his own force if that is what you have in the works idk.

2024-12-14 02:53:09 +0000 UTCI agree I didn’t see losing the loot as a huge negative to the story. It sucked for the character but setbacks happen. I found it interesting that he came accross someone in the world so far behind him on the power scale with a history and link to earth hinted at in the chapter. It gave me a lot of thoughts about what we might see in future books which I think fits well in a chapter near the end of the book.

2024-12-13 23:39:19 +0000 UTCI think at this point it's just to much unnecessary trouble. He just almost died and lost most of his stuff for an orch that is unlikeable and isn't even guaranteed to help him. When he could just stuff the slave into his space. I'm not saying it would be easy but it would be more realistic at this point this is all just too much trouble. If it was me I would be like I'm out, ill figure it out on my own.

2024-12-13 21:54:14 +0000 UTCI don’t know if it is the same for him, but for me the issue is that after a book in which the protagonist growth was non existant in power and very marginal in personality, the loss of important items for no tangible gains feels like a nerf and it is unpleasant. I’m not convinced that Eryck languishing is needed but in my case the nerf is not dealbreaking because the real point of contention, I feel, will arrive when he deals with the orcs that know too much. But I can understand someone being irritated for the MC stalling.

2024-12-13 18:47:07 +0000 UTCInteresting way to make the MC lose some valuables and dignity, but the real problem comes in the next chapter in my opinion because there is no way that Erick leaves the other orcs walk back alive after what was discovered.

2024-12-13 18:18:04 +0000 UTCHe's terrified of injuring his core again with magic essences. He's not completely clear on if the size issue is only different magics but also his power level in each. He doesn't want to grow his healing too much just in case so was sticking to physical and mental essences since recovering. The mana block was only enough time to heal him enough for channeling not to shatter his core, not heal it completely.

2024-12-13 18:10:31 +0000 UTCStorm or frost giants?? Called them frost giants a few times in the chapter i thought they were going to see an enclave of storm giants? Why didn’t Eric use a dungeon ether potion? Gravity Magic, what aspect of magic does that fall under? Are there any more Giants in the world or is this the last bastion for them? Could have ask what he has for the other orcs pin to the floor? Is it possible that Eryk has ran into other Giants during his travels since he now knows that they can shrink down in size? Can the Giants also change forms like a shifter to take on different appearance and races??

2024-12-13 15:38:11 +0000 UTCThis is the fourth time a major plot point/chapter that was probably going to be rewritten I think part of the "charm" in the way I write is that readers can put themselves in the MC's shoes as the story unfolds. When the MC does something that goes against their perceptions, it grates on them. That being said, it took longer to write these last few chapters because I was trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. It was always destined for a rewrite, but the purpose was getting the reveal about the Titans' relationship with the dungeons and how they played a role in getting the MC to Desia itself. So don't expect that part to be removed, as it gets rewritten to be more palatable for the readers.

2024-12-13 15:28:26 +0000 UTCAre you kidding me? This was one of the best chapters to date, many revelations about the universe of the story, Erik learning how weak he really is, possible enemies or friends with the orcs knowing their secrets, in fact what the author did was leave a large scope of possible plots for the story, simply brilliant. Oh and if you don't come back bye bye.

2024-12-13 14:37:07 +0000 UTCThe incentive to not have wasted incredible time, effort, and now invaluable resources - perhaps? A bit of a sunk cost fallacy, but life itself is a sunk fallacy so let's ride, Eryk The only reason to simply flee at this point would be if he has to legitimately escape for some reason, which I don’t see happening. Or if he says, fuck this I’m out, which doesn’t fit his personality and archetype. Best guess is at a minimum Eryk kills one or both the orc chiefs. Mynasha maybe ends up killing Fiosha to silence her about them being otherworlders. Eryk would likely accept this as a form of payment for her debt which Mynasha probably thinks clears the whole thing bc she killed an orc and orcish honor stuff - plus she’s a bit naive/innocent. The rl questions are how much is ya boy gonna suffer, how much are the orcs gonna ultimately profit, and is ya boy gonna get any significant reward from this other than Maveith’s awesome smile?

2024-12-13 11:56:57 +0000 UTCHonestly, I don't think you have to make her or glasha likeable. But having Eryk quite literally being forced into playing kingmaker for a bunch of orcs who just kind of ran roughshod all over him feels a little wrong. Maybe some changes to the dialogue like what's already been said, how Eryk repeatedly denies wanting to help but the dramatic irony is that we all know he's going to help anyway. All that to say, he's basically putting in a Sisyphean amount of effort and receiving no assured help towards Maveith's sister and friend nor is he primed to receive compensation of any sort for his role in selecting one of the top leadership positions in what might as well be a Superpower for this world. The orb of anti-scrying is a given, that's basically the starting line and an appetizer for what he ought to get in recompense. It's simply too unbalanced in favor of the asshole orcs. It comes off as one big losing arc for Eryk. Maybe you wanted to resolve his nigh infinite inventory or get him to this particular group of Titans. And that's fine. But maybe add some weight to your protagonist's side of the scale, he's basically been pressganged into this whole side-adventure only to take L after L. Or at least subtract from the orcs' side of the abacus.

2024-12-13 03:02:40 +0000 UTCIn terms of making her more likable, or why he helped, you just had him keep saying he was not going to help, several times, even though the reader already suspects he is going to help because it would make the plot more interesting. So what would actually make him help? Can she offer him something in addition to freeing his friends sister? Ie, ban all slaves. Treat human kind better. Help Him with a problem in the empire. I have no idea. I still enjoyed the chapter. My other random tonight would be if the giant had a way to notice the personal space is huge. Then it would seem more reasonable to force it open. 2024-12-13 02:57:27 +0000 UTCmynasha and glasha would be way more likeable if they were just upfront and transactional about wanting eryk to help. like "we need someone to be mynashas first and can offer this reward and a favor of your choosing". glasha hiring eryks team could be intended as a audition after she heard of them through the guild. Eryk should ask for his own favor from krosus and be like "can i kill these other guys real quick?"
