I know what the contract says as I have heard many authors say the same things but most authors do not remove the chapters as they are behind a paywall and if you wanted to get technical, all your patreons paid for the chapters. Definitely not telling you what to do, just what I have observed.

2024-07-05 04:10:37 +0000 UTCFrom what I've seen, I think it's a trade off. Discoverability on Amazon is horrible (imo) and it's hard for me find books that I'd like to read. It's much easier to "discover" books on RR that I want to read. On the other hand, the money other authors talk about getting from KU seems to be a lot higher than I expected. So when an author moves from RR to KU it's a tradeoff ... you lose discoverabilty (so less new people finding your work) but you get paid a lot more than from Patreon. I do wish Amazon would allow more than a few chapters, which isn't enough for me to know whether I'll like the book... I feel half the book would be better. Edit: not an expert on this, take this with a grain of salt

2024-06-18 21:51:05 +0000 UTCIs Kindle KU worth it? Taking away the beginning of the story from Royalroad where you appear to new readers doesn't seem like a good deal to me. If it wasn't for those early chapters, I wouldn't have gone on to the story and signed up for Patreon.

2024-06-18 19:59:50 +0000 UTCI took it off kindle unlimited from May 10th to June 15th. This allowed people to get the pdf for free here. Now it is back on KU.
