POV Poll for May - A Soldiers Life
Added 2024-03-22 20:17:42 +0000 UTCSo I am trying to get back to these. I might have to move A Soldier's Life poll to Seraphim only as it is so far ahead and just getting further ahead every week. I still owe a Maveith POV chapter, but it is not time for it yet unless I do a flashback, and those tend to take a long time to write. So here is the May poll. I may close voting earlier and just write a chapter on the top choice at the time.

Technically not always, depends on the story. Many variations of antagonists internal and external, there doesn't always *need* to be some big bad.

2024-03-23 11:13:30 +0000 UTCI'm a big fan of this series. I enjoy the interlude chapters, but my personal taste is to keep the interlude chapters from a consistent POV. I think it gives me more insight into a particular character as they relate to the MC. When the interlude is a one off, I find it a little jarring. I'm getting invested in Raelia's character and I'm interested in learning more about her. The antagonists, I think are best viewed through the MC's POV. And we learn about them through his lens. The same way I think I'm doing the right thing in the moment, but learn that someone else thinks that I've wronged them after the fact. Like when the MC killed the apprentice summoner. The MC is just trying to survive opposing forces, and is forced to kill someone fighting an evil empire.

2024-03-22 21:50:00 +0000 UTCI think mage because it'll be less interpersonal and therefore less recap/directly tangential to Eryk, foremost. Then, the high mage will be A) political, giving us a look into what's going on with the war and the excavation which will be interesting and B) magical, and we might learn a little more about the tiers of magic and magery / worldbuilding. With the Duke, it'd be from a more antagonistic/villainous perspective and we had the summoner not long ago. I feel sometimes always having villainous perspectives means you learn the plans ahead of the protag, and dramatic irony should be sparing. Oftentimes it can be better to see villainy at the same time as the MC, where it doesn't heighten the suspense/pay-off. The shock of reversing fortunes is often better/more dramatic to my mind.

2024-03-22 21:18:22 +0000 UTCThat's fine then, I was just thinking of him being the only decent other perspective not of the Legion group that would make since right now.

2024-03-22 20:21:12 +0000 UTCVoting Duke O. I like to see the motivations of antagonists. Sometimes it's not black and white.

2024-03-22 20:20:56 +0000 UTCnot a prominent figure at the moment - can squeeze in an interaction with Raelia but a whole chapter would not advance the plot

2024-03-22 20:20:43 +0000 UTCHow about one from Raelia's Brother?

2024-03-22 20:19:23 +0000 UTCJustin Cicero is the girffin egg guy and Boris is Duchess Veronica's brother who tried to get the dreamscape amulet. This choice is obvious foreshadowing for the problems the MC has coming in book 4
