UPDATED - Preliminary shader tests of Mari in Redshift

Note, preliminary! This is by no means final!

Let's say this is the early alpha version of Mari's final look in Redshift. Things are starting to come together. I'm very comfortable with the interface now, I'm starting to build some real nice shader networks, and things are starting to take shape.

The goal of this month isn't just to give you guys a watermarked shader test in a T-pose and call it. I want a fully posed, properly shaded Mari out by the end of August. But I will be putting out a lot of iterative renders in the meanwhile and I think it'll be fun to share those with you guys.

My goal is to approximate Mari's Iray look as we know her as much as possible, but obviously due to this being a different engine with different rules, there's gonna be a little bit of a visual difference.

If you're wondering what I'm even talking about at all: you're looking at the early stages of Mari as she will look when animated. Outside of getting her final look right, she's all ready for animation!

If you guys are interested in some more behind-the-scenes detail I don't mind taking some interface screenshots and sharing those with you guys to explain what I'm talking about and trying to achieve :)

UPDATE: Added a second render! This is just one of the many I've put out but I'm happy to share this one because I'm settling on a final visual style for the hair. I've been unable to replicate the way Mari's hair looks in Iray renders because Redshift just... isn't iray. There's a lot of overlap but not all of it.

So for animations her hair will look more like this, which is a bit of a departure from her appearance in image sets, but I don't think I mind haha. Next render will be Mari in a pose!

Sorry for the late reply but thanks for this comment :D I'm glad you like the results so far but there were definitely improvements to be made. Will post tomorrow!

TheDude3DX

Glad to deliver haha. Though technically I haven't yet.

TheDude3DX

Thanks man!

TheDude3DX

Hah you think? :D I haven't even posed her yet! That's tomorrow.

TheDude3DX

Looking good!

Charles Stevenson

Wow, she looks so much more alive then before!

Grayve

Amazing as always

WOW! Really, just WOW! She looks absolutely AMAZING! This gets me REALLY excited for when we get to see her in motion! Can't wait! I get goose bumps just thinking about how awesome this is gonna look and be when you get the rest of the ladies animated as well (Kayla next! 😊). Being the artist I know you have a much more judgemental eye than I do, but it's hard to believe that this is just the "early alpha version". It's hard for me to find any flaws in this shot. It would be interesting to see the whole shot though. I'd love to see her hands, legs and cock. By the way, if my eyes don't deceive me, the red highlights (if that's really what I'm seeing) in her hair look really good. Keep up the good work and enjoy that new chair while you're doing it! And PLEASE, don't push yourself too hard to get the animation(s) done.

Oh yeah I did say that last post. I reversed my decision. Iray for Maya wasn't what I had hoped it would be, unfortunately.

TheDude3DX

Wait, I thought you decided against Redshift?

Dangerous Lines

Hahaha oh wow yeah that's some -real- old school shit.

TheDude3DX

It’s going to be great. As we all know animation take a long time to do right and oh boy do you do things right. Put it out here when your happy enough with it. I looked at some of your early stuff on tumblr. Yes I am sorry I said the T word. It’s good to see the transition. It’s only got better every year. Thanks

ZanyFoxLlama

Lol I love the idea of someone succesfully asserting dominance with that expressionless stare.

TheDude3DX

Hopefully weeks. But I say that as someone who's VERY hesitant to give a time frame because I've literally been pressed to do animation from the moment I released my first ever set, and the problem has always been time. Not just time to put down Daz and go work on stuff in Maya, but also the time to learn it. Throughout the years I've made glacial progress, but it was progress. That's why I'm starting to do posts on Patreon now because technically Mari is animation-ready. I just don't think it's very interesting to animate her in a white Matrix void. I want my first animation with her to be as good and as interesting as any of my sets, but of course everything involving test animation loops and other things will go up on patreon before it goes up anywhere else :)

TheDude3DX

She's asserting dominance.

GhostPants

in terms of very basic, alpha animation, how long do you think it will take?

Despacito 2

Please do!
