Bernard Purdie - The Purdie Shuffle (Drum Pattern No. 114)

This is my drum pattern transcription in the style of "Bernard Purdie - The Purdie Shuffle". The Purdie Shuffle isn't one specific drum pattern, but a type of half-time shuffle that the drummer Bernard Purdie became known for. The Purdie Shuffle exists in many forms and Bernard plays something different every time he demonstrates it, so I picked a few that increased in complexity and intensity.

The first time the Purdie Shuffle was recorded was apparently in 1977 on Steely Dan's "Home At Last". If you spot other interesting variants in the wild feel free to post a link in the comments :)

Hi Daniel, we personally use Reaper, but Ableton Live should be perfectly fine to sequence drum patterns. You just have to find out how to set the swing to triplet swing for variations 1+2 and change the MIDI note grid to 1/16th triplets for variations 3+4 and you should be ready to Purdie :)

Dear Captain, I intend to start to do those Purdies beats using some DIGITAL SEQUENCER. Do you recommend some good as a starter ? My preffered DAW is the LIVE, but I'm opened to use other one indicated for a absolute beginner. Tks !
