Cameo made heavy use of stereo panning here, which gives the LinnDrum sounds a lot more life. The arrangement is quite complex with a lot of variations. These variations are mosty recombinations of various recurring elements though, which is why this time I decided to create a pattern construction kit for you (instead of just listing all the different variations).
By the way: the legendary "Word Up" Snare is actually not a Snare at all, but a multi-layered Hand Clap. I could only find some vague clues as to how it was made, but I'm quite happy with my result anyway. Let me know who of you is interested in a "Drum Patterns Explained" on this one, then I'll walk you through everything in a video.
