Thursday pomodoro report

A pomodoro is a 25-minute block of focused work.  I promised to do at least 10 per week when the first funding goal was reached

Pomodoros I-VIII

You can now choose one of two part-time jobs for your agent to have in university: office administrator or lifeguard.  Each one has an avatar outfit and a short narrative.  We plan to add more college jobs in the future (e.g. waitress, barmaid, librarian) and write Kink Vignettes based around them (e.g. in future versions an agent who works as an office administrator might get a Kink Vignette set at the company Christmas party).  To be clear these new vignettes are not implemented yet, we've just built the framework for them.

Stripping and web-camming have both been suggested as college jobs.  I can see a way to make that work, but my gut feeling is that having the agent do sex work at university weakens the impact of the main story – what do you guys think?

I cleaned up the way the game keeps track of whether your parents are together or separated.  This was to write in a scene where middle class or higher agents can ask their families for an allowance instead of getting a part-time job, but it will allow us to support more complex backstories (such as the agent being brought up just by her dad) in future.

The university workflow now goes: Arrival & set bookworm/balanced/party girl choice -> Kink Vignette 1 -> Part-time job choice -> Kink Vignette 2.

My next task is to add the passages that follow Kink Vignette 2, which are Cheerleader Tryouts (for US/Canadian agents) and University Fitness (for everyone else).  Tomorrow I have meetings for my real job for most of the day, but I will definitely get more dev time in on the game this weekend.

I think you've misunderstood my point. I'm talking about the option to do sex work at university. Which, as outlined above, would be an outfit, a short narrative, and a sex scene to be added at a later date. I'm not calling for kinks to be removed.

This is not a fetish or a quirk, is a basic side/attribute for the main character. Cutting it just because you don't like it would just be really bad.

Enrico

Not really. Having every option, fetish and quirk that people request is not the best or most obvious choice, unless you want to see development go on and on and on.

ultimate_elephant

Then don't choose it, it's that simple. Having more option for everyone for their character is the best (obvious, if you ask me) choice.

Enrico

While I am generally pro choice in this, and might like to see it, I think the problem will be writing credible responses for all the variants. making the narrative credible for a single agent requires a relatively narrow path, otherwise the choices will feed into each other and crush will be writing until 2025..,.

Trent

As what job you take is optional I don't see why we can't just have the choice. Just like how we can choose to have her sleep around or not. Personally I find the idea of sex work a bit much before the main story, but if there is a demand having the option won't take away from my experience. All I need to do is not click the box

What about blackmail? Strictly illegal, cash in hand from getting to be the divorce material for PI's etc? Maybe not even sealing the deal, just giving a very serious impression for the camera. I think stripping/escorting is step too far, but the idea of one of her old mark's finding her in bangkok has appeal...

Trent

Conversely we are talking about a highly intelligent person who may find themselves with the drive to succeed but not the finances and so often they find themselves doing distasteful things to be able to succeed later. For them it would be less of oh my god what are they asking me to do and more Oh my god I thought I had managed to escape this. It's a similar conundrum but with a slightly different perspective

Iain

I can understand your argument, but in my opinion. More sexier jobs wouldn't hurt the main character too much. It would give her a more resilient persona like she's more experienced on handling outside the norm tasks. Can see through lies of men more often, kinda like she has a lot more street smarts compared to book smarts. I find that the harsher the life lived the more capable a person will be going through life. Can't really explain it better than that at the moment but you get the picture ^^

Don’t see why stripping couldn’t work for exhibitionist agents. Would make sense as to why her psych recommends her

Most games are so blunt and over the top. So i hope that this game will take it slow in that regard. Like slowly being corrupted and humilated and transformed by the bad men (and maybe some women) in the game. From being a good girl next door to being still a good girl but who has to endure tons of slutty things. That kind of makes me blush and feel ashamed a bit, but yeah, thats something i could imagine happening for real if done right. I don't know if guys only want to see the sexy parts, but for me as girl the feelings side matter a lot too. It makes it a lot better if i can feel like that if i were in her place, i maybe could get corrupted like her too. The identification is just so much stronger that way :)

Lena

While I am desperate for any and all sexiness possible... I can see what you mean about a university sex-work job reducing the impact of working in Bangkok. The only way I could see it working is if it was VERY mild - e.g. you work in a strip club but not actually as a stripper (barmaid, waitress, etc) so sometimes you'll get customers asking you to pull up your top (with bra still on) but it's really not that big of a deal, or as a camgirl you only have a few sessions and never go beyond underwear. The first might work, but the second would probably feel frustrating unless you write it as an audience tease and then use that as part of the build up for agents who might secretly be looking forward to the Bangkok job. Regardless, I can see where you're coming from and given how much you've struggled with writing when it feels like you've lost the thread in your mind I'd say follow your gut. The best product you can produce will be one that you feel passionate about, so if you keep with your instincts I'm sure we'll all benefit for it.

What I like most about the game is the idea of a good girl suddenly going waaay beyond her boundaries. Sex work at university doesn't really fit that.
