:-( Behind schedule with everything...

I was planning to get a Lifepath Beta out tonight, but even though I worked hard it's not ready.  I'm sorry for missing the target.  :-(

My plan is now to get a dev test version out to Operators+ tomorrow, with a Beta for Analysts+ later in the week.

The delay was caused by me having to work more than usual at my real job this week, and certain things just taking longer to put together than I'd hoped for.  Like I said yesterday, I need to have a serious think about how to switch to Female Agent full time, because if I'd had two more days (and a couple of evenings) available this week then the Beta would be either releasable or very close to it.

The problem isn't just money; I've got quite a lot of responsibility at my real job, and I'm not sure how to exit without putting some people's jobs at risk.  I need to come up with a plan for some kind of phased exit, but coming up with that plan will itself take time that would further have slowed down development this week, so I haven't worked on it.

Thanks everybody for bearing with me, and sorry again for the disappointing news – I promise to figure something out somehow.  🦀

Have you considered requesting to be moved to part time pending external personal conflict. You would have more time to make Female Agent, you would keep your job. From your reports, you have admitted making mistakes at work, so you’re work has obviously knows something is going on, you apologized for that, but they may be more than willing to move you to part time so you can resolve what ever is affecting your work. And once the game is finished you could return to full time.

I wouldn't recommend leaving a real job to work on a game that is being funded through the internet to be honest. Most full time creators seem to get burned out and abandon the project, or drastically lower their output. I think such things are best kept as hobbies. I also think it is important to pace yourself to avoid that burn out that seems so ubiqutous. Anyway best wishes to you, the game is quite promising so far.

It's 1430 and I've managed to slip away from my real job! I am gonna grab some lunch then get started on pomodoros!

Thanks B, appreciate it.

Thanks, Spartan. The day it's finished will be a great day even if it means I have to move onto a totally different project, because the game I always wanted to play will have finally been made. :-)

Yes! My great team have been incredibly helpful even though they're practically volunteers. :-) This is an area on which I need to get much better. I've got some ideas about unlocking some of the creativity in our community, too, but more about that later.

Thanks Toad, that's really good advice.

Don't sweat it. Take your time. No need to put your livelyhood at risk to please some strangers on the internet.

Not to be that guy, but don't put yourself in a bind just to develop this game in a timely manner, we're just 800 some odd people who enjoy the work you're able to accomplish. Keep in mind that once you complete the game you may not be able to rely on this as a sole means of employment, and we wouldn't you to be left hanging on our account. If it takes longer to develop the game then so be it, quality work and story telling take time, your transparency and communication of the situation is more than enough

Sorry if I ask, but can't you delegate? I mean here, for the time you don't have. And maybe just do the "fun stuff" (unless it's all the fun stuff for you :)) until you're ready. In any case, good luck ;)

Thanks for the transparency and good luck with the releases. Also, if you like and respect your boss, talk to them about your desire to leave and let them help you coordinate that transition to be as smoothly as possible. I understand the impulse to walk into their office with a complete plan, but that delays you taking action, which increases your stress levels and makes crafting that plan a bigger and bigger hurdle, plus there may be factors that they know about that you don't that will significantly impact how the exit needs to be handled. It's just easier to be transparent about your desire to leave in a way that makes it easiest for your coworkers, rather than just springing it on them. Of course, if they are an asshole, none of this applies and I don't want to deny you your mic drop moment.
