The Americans among you probably have no idea what I'm talking about, and I'm going to miss most of the matches for reasons, but still! World Cup!
Here are the week's chapters:
Chapter 199: Even if it is True is now available for Core Disciples.
Chapter 194: I Would Hate to Disappoint You is now available for Inner Disciples.
Interlude: Those Beneath and Chapter 191: Colonel Peng are now available for Outer Disciples.
As a reminder, there won't be an update next week. I've got a trip coming up.
Take care, everyone!

2023-01-23 19:01:58 +0000 UTCWhile I wouldn’t always defend Qatar on a public forum, this here is small enough that I hope my words will not be dismissed out of hand. I lived there for three years and in no way is the place as depraved and corrupted as portrayed in media. It is just as developed as any city in North America, there are about a dozen large American and European universities that have branches there and allowed to teach without any censorship. They do even teach courses about media control and censorship, and tough/contentious topics in Arab politics. In addition, it is one of the safest countries in the world, no guns, no violence on the streets, approachable if language-challenged police. The reason so many deaths occurred during the construction work (and happened before the tender, and will happen in the future) is because of the usage of unskilled, illiterate folk who have no clue about proper safety, and who ignore rules when convenient. Not to shame the labourers, it is the hand they were dealt. But this can arguably be called exploitation, when otherwise their living conditions and benefits were perhaps better than what they had before coming to Qatar. Also note that large American companies like Parsons were part of the management of the World Cup infrastructure projects. All the safety standards are exactly the same as you would see in the US or Canada. It’s just the enforcement of them is insufficient to handle people who cannot understand why the rules are there. Remember, these are people who don’t know English or Arabic, do not have training or schooling, and are nearly all young men from extreme poverty, the likes of which you would not be able to imagine unless you went to their hometowns.
