Detroit Basketball

Miniature gaming has got me. This past Wednesday I played 40K with my friend again. He introduced some new rules and objectives and I liked the game even more than I did initially. The problem is I don’t want to drop the money on a Warhammer army right now so I bought two boxes of Battletech stuff and decided to get back to what I played in my teens. It’s much Detroit Basketballcheaper and everything in the boxes is useful. Players don’t need to spend much to start playing and you don’t need to spend much on anything after the initial purchase. My Warhammer 40K friend agreed to try a couple of the rulesets with me and we’ll see where it goes. I’ll continue to play 40K as well, with borrowed units, until I decide whether or not it’s for me.

The Detroit Pistons’ season came to a close last night and, while I wanted them to go further, it was an incredible season. No one could have foreseen the impact of the changes they made last summer. Bickerstaff stands up for his guys. Harris, Hardaway, Beasley, (and, later, Schroeder) all contributed on the floor and in the locker room. It was fun to be a fan this year. It was fun to see it dawn on all of us, around late November, that something unexpected was happening. By January, by far their best month, we were watching basketball that just the year before seemed like an impossibility, maybe for the foreseeable future. When Bickerstaff was hired he asked for time during a press conference. He more or less asked them to judge him in February. He predicted that by then he’d have the team playing Detroit Basketball. He sure as hell did. I’m anxious about what this summer will bring. The status of Beasley and Hardaway. Potential moves. We can be a buying team this summer. It’s about continuing to build around Cade.

Anyway, I’ll be watching the rest of the season, but maybe a little less closely. I could root for the Warriors. I like the Nuggets. I don’t hate on OKC, they’ve had a wild year. My interest is less than in previous years, however. I think it comes down to being overjoyed with the Pistons’ performance for the first time in over a decade. I’m left feeling full instead of scrambling to pick up scraps.

I cannot wait for next season, but it’s going to feel like there is a lot more on the line.

The Pistons are pretty darn dope. Gotta redo my local Warriors tho. Not a huge fan of the team itself, but I'll be rooting..... A little bit ..... Maybe....
