Chapter 179: The Unmovable Hammer

George smiled.
"My price might be higher than you expect."
"Whatever it is, I can afford it," Thor replied, raising his head. Once he retrieved Mjölnir, his powers would return, and he could return to Asgard. To him, mortals only valued gold, and he could easily offer a large chunk of it as payment.
"Alright, follow me," George said, gesturing for Thor to accompany him toward the X-Jet.
"My name is George. What's yours?"
"Thor Odinson," he introduced himself proudly, adding, "You might not believe this, as a mere mortal, but I am Thor, God of Thunder from Asgard."
He expected skepticism, as even Jane Foster and her companions had dismissed him as delusional. With his powers stripped away, he had no way to prove his identity.
"I believe you," George interrupted.
"You do?" Thor looked surprised, then added, "Do you know Loki?"
"Yes, he's your brother, right? Currently in Asgard?"
Thor was taken aback by George's knowledge but quickly regained his composure. "Indeed, you have a sharp eye for a mortal!" he said with a pleased tone.
George didn't elaborate. "I have a few friends with me. Can we bring them along?"
"Of course, as long as you get me to the place with the hammer fifty miles northwest, I don't care about the rest," Thor replied, waving dismissively.
George then used his communicator to notify his team.
"Steve, Banner, Betty, and Logan, I've found a lead. Head back to the jet. Tony, meet us fifty miles northwest of the town, where the hammer is located."
Ten minutes later, the jet was airborne.
Thor sat aboard the X-Jet, looking around curiously. "Is this one of your mortal ships? Looks better than what I've seen before, but still quite primitive."
Meanwhile, Steve, Banner, Betty, and Logan exchanged skeptical glances, silently questioning George.
Through telepathy, George explained, "His name is Thor, Loki's brother. In the future I've seen, he's an ally who fights on our side. For now, let's hear him out and see where this leads."
Despite their doubts about Thor's eccentric behavior, the team nodded in agreement.
Shortly after, Tony's voice came through the communicator.
"I've found the hammer. There's a crowd partying around it, but I've paid them to leave for now."
The jet landed near the location. Stepping out, the team saw Tony in his Iron Man suit, attempting to lift Mjölnir with all the suit's power, but the hammer remained completely immobile.
"This thing is bizarre," Tony remarked, opening his helmet to reveal a puzzled expression. "I scanned it—it's radiating immense energy."
"Mortals cannot lift Mjölnir," Thor interjected, pushing past Steve and Logan. "Only the All-Father, Odin, and its rightful owner—me, Thor, God of Thunder—can wield it!"
All eyes turned to George, who gestured for the team to wait.
Thor grasped Mjölnir's handle with confidence and pulled.
Nothing happened.
Thor frowned, gripped it with both hands, and pulled harder.
Still, the hammer did not budge.
Planting his feet firmly on the ground, he exerted every ounce of strength. The hammer remained motionless.
"Why… why won't it move? All-Father, why would you do this to me?!" Thor cried, dropping to his knees in despair.
Tony turned to George. "Where did you find this drama club reject?"
George calmly replied, "He's not an actor. He claims to be Thor, the God of Thunder, and Loki's brother. In the future I've seen, he's real."
Tony scoffed. "Asgard? Gods? Come on, George. This guy doesn't look anything like a god to me."
Ignoring Tony's skepticism, George approached Thor, speaking gently. "Thor, tell us your story. Perhaps we can help."
Thor, disheartened, began recounting his tale.
At his coronation as King of Asgard, frost giants infiltrated the treasure vault, attempting to steal the Casket of Ancient Winters. Furious, Thor sought Odin's permission to retaliate against Jotunheim but was denied and scolded for his recklessness.
Unable to accept this, Thor defied Odin's orders, taking Loki, Lady Sif, and the Warriors Three to Jotunheim. Confronting King Laufey, Thor's temper flared at his taunts, leading to a battle. The frost giants overwhelmed them, and they were only saved by Odin's intervention.
Upon their return, Thor and Odin argued. Seeing Thor's arrogance and immaturity, Odin stripped him of his powers and banished him to Earth to reflect on his actions.
"Do you believe him? Because I don't," Tony remarked after hearing the story. "That hammer probably has some crazy energy signature causing this 'unmovable' phenomenon."
