I'd like your input on video plans

The bigger reason I became a patron support for you was because I knew you were getting shafted by the algorithm for your long videos which I love to watch. So this was my way of keeping that format afloat. I don’t mind if you started to release shorter videos so long as you still create those beautiful long format ones on the topics that do deserve it. However many great topics are out there that couldn’t be stretched to a longer video would be excellent for shorter ones and I’m sure I would enjoy those too.

I really see the incentive for more frequent uploads but as someone who really started following you for during the Turkish series I would rather see longer videos, not necessarily (especially with the YouTube algorithm) that long but the almost documentary feel to your videos is a big draw for me. As long as the quality maintains do what you want though man.

​Personally, I've set the limit to 5 payments a month, so it should be fine, but this per video format doesn't seem ideal to me, your 2h long video are definitely worth more than a 10min video obviously, and I don't want to give you the incentive to do shorter video, you should make them on the length you see fit for the content, I very much liked the Mexican border format and it was because of the huge work they demanded that I've decided to support you. Also, most Patreon won't be aware of this post and seeing a 5x time increase in their support spending may be.... delicate matter. :-) Personally, I would prefer a more predictable monthly payment, I know your work and I will continue supporting you no matter the format, well, as long as the channel is alive.​

Pls do a video or even better a series on Liberia. One of the most unique countries I can think of.

I have two ideas for videos which I believe you would be particularly apt at tackling. 1. The Power of Potatoes or The Effects of The Colombian Exchange on Eurasian Agriculture. I feel like people to not appreciate how something as simple as a root vegetable can radically improve people's lives (and in the case of the Maori, jump start an era of genocidal warfare). It is amazing how population numbers just ballooned when the farmers of a given region began to plant potatoes and other American crops. 2. The Geopolitics of Rivers or America's Great Advantage. I know that you are not a fan of Peter Zeihan, and the man gets plenty of things wrong. But one thing the geographic determinists get right is that rivers can give people a huge advantage and a navigable river more so. The United States hit the jackpot with the Mississippi River Valley and drastically increased the value of that asset with a canal system to connect the great lakes to the sea in a massive loop.

People can always cap max spending per month, but having a monthly fee would give you constant mostly fixed source of income without needing to worry how it affects your creative process.

IMO 15 to 30 minutes videos are optimal, both for viewers, and YouTube algorithm.

Mmmh 4 videos in a month can be a little too much to pay for some people You could make us pay only the first out of the four, and maybe you can charge us the rest one month at a time

I'd love to see more regular content from you but I really enjoy your high production value content even if it is more irregular, so whatever works for you man I just enjoy your videos

Personally, I donate to you for the same reason I donate to Kahn Academy. I think your content is beautiful and should be free to access. So I support you here in the hopes that others with less to their name will be able to experience your content without paywall.

Regarding paid-for per video, I think it's also fine to get 7,500$ per 5 minute video. So long as money's not your primary motivation. At the same time, I understand if you want to change that billing procedure when December rolls around to something less uh, self conscious i suppose is a way to put it. I've always thought it was strange (and amazing) that I went from being dirt poor and watching various YouTubers in 2016 to earning more money than some do at the time of this writing (Shaun, Exubr1a, Sir Swag, Casually Explained come in mind). These folks I sometimes shouldn't have to worry about their own tight coupling of their art/media and financial upkeep/self preserverance. This is honestly a big reason why I'm patreon, I like many others have no interest in the Patreon benefits.

I think it's perfectly fine, those one hour videos i feel is subtly setting yourself for an unreasonably high benchmark
