Baird's Entry - Faerie Ring

Faerie Ring

Within the Earth, toil’d soft and brown
There grows the ring of mushrooms sown
By faeries’ toes, long after dusk
‘Twixt in the paper’d berries’ husks

Gooseberry seeds sprout round the plot
Where flutt’ring nymphs plant burgeon knots
Concentric circles born of spores
The sprites return when grounds transform

From grey to white and white to green
Spring sun arrives and so the queen
Calls to her vassals, winged slants
Return the fae to waft and dance

-------------------

Faerie rings are real phenomena and a unique way fungi can grow! Have any of you ever seen one in real life? Or if you ever do encounter one, would you dare step into the circle?

Month by month, we'll keep filling out the compendium with new and mysterious creatures voted on by you! Sponsors can vote on next month's selection of fae locales and denizens here:

The coveted [redacted] seal of approval!

Little Napoleon

I LIKE THIS ONE A LOT, THANKS

REDACTED

They just want more victims :V

Verathorn

A Da-fae-rreotype, if you will :D

Little Napoleon

The illustrations are beautiful, but I can't help but imagine Baird with an old black box camera, taking a photograph with a 5-minute exposure. Just yelling at this poor girl to stop transforming so he can get a clear image.

ComicTF

They sure are! Must be infused with fae magic.

Little Napoleon

Hmmm... Yep, everything seems perfectly normal!

Little Napoleon

I had the same first thought, haha

Little Napoleon

What's most interesting is that faerie rings are not a one-time occurrence. The colony continues to grow and expand every year, the largest of rings growing to several hundred meters in diameter. Fungi really are amazing life forms!

Kaliam01

Get them quite a lot on our lawn but the toadstools are often so tiny, they're hard to see in the grass. No effect when I stood it, so I just shook my mane and continued grazing....

Destrier

So brave!

Little Napoleon

I think the intent was for the drops to indicate sweat/exertion, but as they say, art is in the eye of the beholder! Interpret it however you please ^^

Little Napoleon

We'll keep filling out Baird's Compendium with more myths and legends like these!

Little Napoleon

Griffin? Just has the ears.

Rey Fox

We'll do our best to keep these coming, but with the game's launch around the corner once Grace's final chapter is done, the Baird's schedule may be a little inconsistent ^^;

Little Napoleon

To your question, yes, yes i would step into the circle.

Some Foxy

The question that I have, and maybe this is a lack of knowledge, but it seems to me the person in the picture is crying. Is there a reason for this?

Braeden1002

Oh wow! For whatever reason I just got this notification, but this is a pretty interesting- uh- I can’t remember the word right now. But still, Very interesting, love the art and the lore.
