Within the Earth, toil’d soft and brown
There grows the ring of mushrooms sown
By faeries’ toes, long after dusk
‘Twixt in the paper’d berries’ husks
Gooseberry seeds sprout round the plot
Where flutt’ring nymphs plant burgeon knots
Concentric circles born of spores
The sprites return when grounds transform
From grey to white and white to green
Spring sun arrives and so the queen
Calls to her vassals, winged slants
Return the fae to waft and dance

2022-08-06 20:39:41 +0000 UTCWhat's most interesting is that faerie rings are not a one-time occurrence. The colony continues to grow and expand every year, the largest of rings growing to several hundred meters in diameter. Fungi really are amazing life forms!
